An interesting place to see as a foreigner. When you visit on a Friday, you have to compete for space with wedding couples getting married and their guests! Not a nuisance at all, just interesting. There are also lots of school kids exploring the museum. The Keep is still under restoration. What is available may look like a bit of a mish-mash, with a wonderful collection of china, the Boudica & Romans Gallery, the Wider World Gallery, the Natural History Galleries, and the Egyptian collections. There’s also the Royal Norfolk Regimental collection, so all in all, everyone should find something to their liking. The exhibits are well described, with little anecdotes every now and then to keep the visitors’ attention. A lovely Victorian toilet is hidden at the far end still in use. A nice cafe serves cakes and small lunches to replenish your energy.nnI’m a teacher trainer and I usually bring a group of foreign teachers who explore the museum with the aim of designing activities for their learners. I typically ask if a museum attendant could give us a very short talk on the museum activities. This is also to give the teachers an opportunity to listen to another variety of spoken English. However, this seems to be asking for too much, as there is never a person available to spare five minutes of their time. Pity!
The castle was closed for renovation and affects the museum as well. It was a bit of disappointment to find out that only part of the museum was open. The collection presented in this side museum was nice, but under curated. The museum emphasizes on natural history, which is mostly taxidermic collection, victorian period artefacts, and war-time information on involvement of the British in since the Boer War up to the Second World War. However there was a good collection on porcelain and glass ware from the XIX century that I enjoyed.
Very pleasant visit to the castle. Parts under construction but still lots to view. Coffee very nice in the cafe. Vegan food was an orange/apple/ chocolate bar. Watched a wedding party move through the museum. The exhibits are fabulous. £6.50 admission. Must view for visitors.
Brilliant place to visit although at present most of the castle is closed to the public for renovations.
Mostly closed at the moment. Opening 2024. It is 2024. Many many dead and taxidermied animals. The informative signs let you know who shot them, and theres also paintings of dead animals. Toilets should be part of the exhibition. Do not look through the eye of Horus, its not worth it.
