I had an amazing experience at Northcote.nI was treated like a VIP and all the staff were attentive, friendly and happy to talk despite being very busy.nThe food was fantastic and there was a very well stocked bar also.nHighly recommend.
Attended the 5 course taster menu.nnFood was very good, well presented and flavoursome, but no particular course stood out to an exceptional Michelin standard. Nothing memorable other than the cheese board!.nnService was okay. It was a mix of nice people, some who were very knowledgable and others who seemed like Saturday staff. It missed the shine you expect from Michelin star.nnAtmosphere - the restaurant itself is tired/dated and in need of a refurb to bring the ambiance up to current day.nnOverall, experience was good, but I felt like they have become complacent with their long standing Michelin star. I probably wouldn’t go again at the current price point.
Northcote, for me, was incredibly well thought out flavour and texture balancing. We went for our anniversary and did the 5 course taster. We had snacks which were surprising texturally but warming and hearty in flavour. Then we had musroom parfait which was served with a mushroom tea which for me stole the show. It felt healing and full of goodness.nThis was followed by squab pidgeon and that was served with a bacon mayonnaise and damson jam. The cod was a highlight served on a beurre blanc and hazelnuts which complemented the citrus flavour on top perfectly.nFollowing this was venison, cooked perfectly, with a tortellino made with the offcuttings. The tortellino really packed a deep meaty punch. This was served with beetroot and a blackcurrent jelly. Perhaps this dish needed one less beetroot element there was a roll and cubed and something like a carrot which could add a little more texture and less sweetness to the plate.nFinally Lisa's take on coffee was a masterclass in flavours and textures. The inclusion of sesame was playful and exciting.nStaff were clearly knowledgeable, caring and warm.nThe atmosphere is what you would expect from a restaurant of this quality in the north. Relaxed, welcoming and beautiful.nWould I go again? Yes but I'd probably pick from the a la carte menu save in the knowledge that I wouldn't be able to pick a bad dish.
What can I say… Northcote just keeps on delivering! Incredible quality food, fantastic service and lovely atmosphere.nnThis time we tried the Sunday lunch and it was great. The lamb was a seasonal special which a friend had recommended so I gave it a try. There’s still some improvements to the vegetarian options offered though, the quality is always stellar, but the portion sizes and value pales in comparison to the meat/fish/poultry options.nnLooking forward to returning and trying the classic beef roast next time!
Attended the first evening of ‘obession 24’.nService was okay. It was a mix of people who were excellent and knowledgable and who were not. Couple of mistakes which I wouldn’t expect at this price point but overall okay. Also pretty appalling that they tried to charge an extortionate service charge on top of an already expensive meal.nnThe food itself was interesting and generally tasted good, each dish had a definite theme and goal and overall I enjoyed it.nnThe atmosphere was pretentious and self important - adverts all over the place: a magazine detailing each day of the ‘event’ filled with ‘luxury items’, a gaudy car in front of the hotel, and a projector which sometimes live streamed the kitchen and then played adverts for the sponsors of the event.nnOverall, I think my 3 stars are fair, as I would not return but it was fine.
