The increases in property maintenance bills is absolutely ridiculous! 10 years ago I was £100 per quarter until these criminals took over. Since it has just shot up year after year. My quarterly bill being £366.78 this month, which they expect paid in 7 days in full! Absolute joke. Reconsider buying a property if Newton are involved.
Moved into my flat nearly 3 years ago, kept getting hounded for the float money - I wasn’t aware of this before moving in and I also don’t see the point of it. Highlighted issues regarding ground lights that don’t work which make the area dark in the winter. Kept getting told someone would come out and look. Eventually 2 years later someone did but still no working lights. Over charge everything £5 for a bulb that becomes £25 plus £100 for someone to change it. When I brought this up to the site manager was told to do it myself. Over £800 every 3 months for cutting grass and blowing leafs round the car park. The garden people also missed I would say 2 grass cuts - the residents were still charged for the missed ones. In the nearly 3 years I’ve lived in the flat I’ve never seen anyone from newton out to see the flats or to carry out any inspections. Issues all have to be reported by residents that then amazingly for newton they can charge more for the issues raised. Now to give them come credit when I’ve reported issues most of them have been dealt with however it’s what they charge that’s ridiculous e.g over £100 to reset the communal lights.
Waiting almost a year for my deposit to be returned despite chasing several times. Had to check over every single invoice they sent for property management fees as they were regularly incorrect and for different apartment blocks/historic energy bills. I don't think they represented good value as factors. The team were responsive in general and not bad but the incorrect bills, not returning my deposit and the expensive factor fees make this a 1 star experience. Update: my partner emailed for an update and you appear to have somehow crafted charges from 2022 onto the bill. This is the 3rd 'final' invoice you've sent despite leaving the property 12 months ago. I'm convinced you're making up the bills at this point. Genuinely hard to believe. This one may go to small claims
After working with this factor for years without issue I am dismayed at the lack of service. After reporting a leak into our property from the flat up above, providing pictures and chasing up for a response a week later, I hear nothing. After a further week when I call them I am advised the contractor attended but couldn’t gain access. Who sends a contractor out without arranging access? After sharing my dissatisfaction on lack of progress 2 weeks with no resolution the individual on the phone advised “she can hear that” Unbelievable sarcasm from an inept, unprofessional clearly in the wrong job. Now I’m told they can’t gain access until a new tenant moves in… Whilst our property continues to be damaged 2 weeks and counting for requesting repairs… Not acceptable. Thank you for your reply however, The issue was the fact you sent a contractor out without arranging access and never followed up until I called. This is why you took almost a month to attend to a leak into my property. You can dress it up whatever way you like but it’s not acceptable and not admitting fault is clearly your only intention. Shameful.
An absolute joke. I have received again for the second time an incorrect bill charging me £175.28 on the top of what I have always paid because they mix up charges from other blocks. They have charged me as well for a job that should have been covered by the insurance company, saying that I should have phoned the insurance provider. I would advise anyone to double check invoices because there is always a mess and never never pay them with direct debit to avoid money taken out for no reason.
Joke of a company. I don't know if it is down to incompetence or they're just out to scam everyone. I got billed for lifts that don't exist and electricity from 5 years ago just before I left the development I was in when I checked old bills they were charging me for electricity from years ago all the time. I tried my best to ring them and email them but they just ignore me so I refuse to pay this completely incorrect bill. The funny thing is they still send me new charges for the period of time after I have gone. I've done my best to sort out the issue but they just ignore me and seeing that I've left the UK I don't really care anymore. Avoid this company if looking for a new factor!
Avoid this company at all costs. I advise everyone with an issue to make a formal complaint after you have done this and the company continue to do nothing as per you can take it to the Housing and Property Chamber for a tribunal, also if more than 50% of people at your property are against the company you can change. Multiple complaints about a leaking roof and multiple roof surveys and again it is still not fixed and leaking tonight. I don’t think David knows what an email is, or competent to do his job. They are in breach of their contract not up keeping their half so I will be no longer up keeping mine. In reply to your comment, a roof leaking in the exact same spot multiple times has not been repaired correctly, and it’s funny that the only way to get a reply is to seek advice on how to make you actually do something. There is also the issue of the contractor you used damaging the property and not properly repairing it that has been forgotten about. Also a bin shed that has been damaged before I even bought my property that’s not had anything done about it. Your accounts team don’t reply to emails asking to set up direct debits then send threat of debt recovery. Surely you would be embarrassed by how terrible your company is at what they do and get the finger out and try and improve it? Or maybe you could just reply with sarcastic comments.
One of the worst businesses and factors I have ever dealt with. Moved out of my flat in September and now, in March, have still not received my float money back. Final invoice was sent in February and final money paid months ago. I have now been waiting on my money for around a month. David’s assistant has been more than helpful in this situation, yet the fact that I am still waiting is unbelievable. Wondering if I will also be sent the interest my money has accrued in this time!l? I’m going to guess not!
Avoid these factors. Despite repeatedly informing them about an issue with our property over the past several months, they have done nothing about it, allowing the issue to get progressively worse and ultimately resulting in unsanitary living conditions for all residents of the building. Every time I contact them about the issue, they say it's the first time they have been informed about it. Extremely frustrating. I have reported them to the city for neglect of our property. UPDATE 22 Jan 2024: It's not at all surprising that Newton still does not have any record of my repeated requests. This is the same story that I've heard since September when I first reported the problem. It only further justifies my review. UPDATE 2 25 Jan 2024: I heard back from Newton. They are now claiming that it is not their responsibility, despite the fact that correspondence that I have had with the City and the Letting Agent say that it is the responsibility of the factors. UPDATE 3 2 Feb 2024: After reluctantly speaking with a city officer, they have finally agreed to look into the issue. It was first reported in September. I've also asked them to revise their response below that suggests that my review is illegitimate over a week ago ans it has not yet been corrected.
The worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Random charges put on bills, promises of trying to lower certain charges but never come to fruition and then try to charge for ridiculous items, they are challenged and there is never an outcome. Increased management fee but zero notice. The best part is you get charged £108 to sell your property even though they have nothing to do with the sale! The communication is worse than poor, and they ignore the question you ask.
