We visited both the National Trust House/Hall and the Castle. The house isn't huge but it is lovely to see. It's a free to roam tour and a cafe inside and outside seating. The castle is on the same Estate, at the top of a pretty steep climb but well worth it. Slow and steady. You can walk the castle walls and see the spectacular views. We had a beautiful weather day and saw for miles all around. The walk through the deer park and boardwalk was so peaceful late in the day the birds were enjoying the evening sun too. We didn't see any deer sadly but there were hoof marks all over. A bonus was the first Bluebells opening I've seen this year. Plenty of toilets and other estate walks too.
The house was really interesting to look around. The grounds are great and the boardwalk was something different I liked the pond at the end of the boardwalk where I watched the birds swooping down and catching the insects. The views from the top of the castle are really spectacular as well.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely house and well kept estate. Very friendly, polite and helpful staff from the entrance into the house. The information available in the house made interesting reading about the history of the family and estate. Free car park & house entry for National Trust members. Costs for non members on the website. Was lovely to see the deer close to Newton House, we got some lovely photos.
Newton House is the new house within the Dinefwr Estate. The house has a landscaped garden around the back and also has a cafe on site as well. The inside of the house is interesting to go around COVID had given some restrictions. At the rear of the house, the deer are sometimes out in the field behind the house grazing.
Lovely house, nice grounds, nice little cafe, enjoyed our visit. Deer on the grounds. Dog friendly, ample parking.
Amazing magestic place, lots of wide open space to enjoy walks, exploring. Lots of history at the house and staff are fantastic. Will definately be our place to go to blow away the cobwebs.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A house with a lot of its own history that is closely linked with nearby Dynefore Castle. The parkland is home to deer and rare breed cattle with plenty of paths for a leisurely stroll. Cafe and toilets on site.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Check opening times before planning your journey, they can change throughout the year. The Cafe was delightful, with a lovely fireplace to eat near, that heated the whole room. The beef cawl was lovely, although the quantity of cheese was rather vast, luckily I had a pasty so my partner "shared" her cheese with me and stuffed it inside my pasty. Highly recommended. They also serve the usual sandwiches, coffees, soft drinks and pasties found at most National Trust cafes. There were great places for children to play inside the house, shadow puppets were a key highlight and allowed adults to explore the fantastic history and exhibits of the house, with few interruptions, which are some of the best exhibits we have seen in the National Trust. The deer park and walks were of a perfect length and ranged from 20 mins to a few hours if you did them all slowly. We are a young active couple in our late 20s, however most of the walks would be suitable for those who may not be so active as us. The bog walk was very pretty for autumn walks and would be our recommendation for a beginner walk for all ages as you get scenery and it's all boardwalk so it is mostly a flat walk. There are also loads of benches and places to rest on the bog walk. Some walks, such as the Brown Walk, have fewer resting spots, but are not difficult walks so would be suitable for most people. The views are worth it. If one can make it up the steep hill to the castle, then the views are fantastic and brilliant in 360° from the top of the tower. The stairs are steep, stony and old, so go slow and careful, especially if icy or wet, there are sturdy hand rails all the way up however.
Not a huge house and garden but we'll worth a visit and good coffee and cake as well as a great bookshopVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
