We spent a lovely couple of nights here. Exceptional and warm welcome and service from John and his team. Very comfortable bedroom, intimate dining room, and cosy fireside reading in the living room. From initial contact with John to arrange a booking to the time we left, this was one of the best experiences with any hotel or guest house we have ever stayed in. A gorgeous building both outside and in, only matched by the high levels of attention and service from John and all the staff. Truly a 10 out of 10 experience. Everything was perfect from the first minute to the last. A place to really relax and enjoy the peace & quiet away from normal life. The praise Newforge house receives in all the reviews is well deserved. Highly recommended to everyone. We will definitely be back!
From the moment I spoke with John on the phone, I knew we would have a lovely, warm Irish welcome and, despite our very late arrival 11.35pm - long story!, he and Newforge House did not disappoint. Very sweetly, he threw another log or two on the fire in the drawing room, and offered us a cup of tea and some delicious homemade by the man himself biscuits on arrival before later escorting us up to the beautiful suite he so kindly upgraded us to. This suite certainly had the wow factor in the fact that the four poster bed and mattress, fabulous sheets and plumped up pillows provided us with the best sleep we have had in years! As we were travelling with our 15 month old, getting away at all was a treat, but we felt so well looked after by John, and were so grateful to him. The cot was all set up and looked so inviting for our little one and he, like us, slept so well.The bathroom was spacious and tastefully, yet simply, decorated with a walk-in shower and separate bath. Scottish bath products, I assume a nod to his wife's Scottish roots, had the most divine scent. After a wonderful sleep and shower, the next morning, we descended into the dining room where we had the most magnificent breakfast, all freshly prepared by John. Service was pleasant and professional. There was a small yet ample continental selection of dried and fresh fruits and cereals and a stellar breakfast menu that John cooks to order. I chose the kipper, which was served with the most delicious homemade bread and oven-roasted vine tomatoes at my request. To say I was in foodie heaven would be an understatement. And, if things couldn't get any better or personal, on our departure, John thanked us for our custom and personally escorted us to the door. Everything about this accommodation is refined and understated class with warm, without being intrusive, hospitality. Without doubt, we will, most certainly, be back. Thank you, John. My husband and I recently spent two nights at Newforge House. John and his team run this delightful period home to a very high standard. All is welcoming, comfortable, elegant. John is an excellent chef and the food was wonderful! The service first class. Thank you to all concerned. We highly recommend this location to anyone wishing for a top class place to stay.

Wonderful old estate house. The owners are lovely, providing just enough conversation to be enjoyable but not so much that it is intrusive, it was just right. The rooms and beds were very comfortable. But the best thing was the food! The food is amazing, really worth the spin up! We'll definitely be back Food & drinks: Food here is just fantastic!

Truely amazing dinner in a lovely guesthouse. Warm and friendly staff, with a special shout out to John who made our overnight stay so enjoyable. Would recommend you stay more than one night to make the most of his guesthouse and cooking!
This is a 5 star experience all round. Wonderful country house; Beautifully maintained. Our room was the smallest but still comfortable and cosy. The personal touches were superb. I'm a coeliac and couldn't have asked for more care and attention to my dietary needs. Fabulous wine menu. Extensive whisky and gin menu. The most gorgeous hot brandy!! The food was unbelievably good. Top quality ingredients cooked to perfection. Dinner was spectacular. Breakfast was divine! John's home made gluten free granola was devoured in seconds! I've been raving about this place since I left. It's worth going back to again and again! Well done to John and his team. The care and attention shown to guests is commendable. We will be back with no doubt :-
What a treat. Beautiful hotel, perfect for a completely relaxing couple of days. The host and chef John went over and above expectations and catered for my dietary requirements, even made me gf granola which was delicious. Close to Hillsborough, Banbridge, Moira and Dromore, all lovely towns worth a visit.Rooms: 5/5
