Castle Eden Dene is a valley ("Dene") several kilometres long, following a stream that runs at its base. There's a free car park (you can make donations if you wish) and directions for 2 circular walks (3km and 3.5km) which tackle either end of the valley, diverging from the middle. We did the red walk and it took about 1 hour 15 minutes. There is some degree of elevation. You're following the stream along quite a high path, that eventually loops back to cross over an iron bridge which looks down 100 metres into a gorge below. We saw very little wildlife but the trees are amazing, the path clearly marked and very little sign of rubbish. A lovely spot, we'll be back!

I love this place. Such a wildlife haven in the most unexpected place! Great circular walk to get the blood pumping around the den with some beautiful things to see there

Personal the dene is being waisted , upkeep of the dene is poor , overgrown paths , wet days you will need wellys as there is no other way round the mud pits. I spend a lot of time in the dene and hardly see anyone . MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS ARE A MUST IF YOU WANT MORE VISITORS
