There's loads to to do and explore here, from amazing gardens, to a woodland river walk and loads of play areas for children. A family could easily spend a day here! The house itself is wonderful! I don't think I've ever know a National Trust house feel so homely! There's so many homely touches including fake fires, music playing in some of the rooms and plenty of places to sit and relax!
Lovely property and fully up there with the exceptional standards the NT achieve. The Walled Garden was a real treat, and the footpaths to get there, in fact throughout the estate, were extremely well maintained. Cafe was also up there with the best and the staff right across the estate were helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended.
A good place to visit to spend a few hours particularly on a sunny day. The house has some stunning features and well worth spending some time inside to make sure you see everything. There's plenty of parking and a short walk to the house which is set in a large courtyard garden. The courtyard has toilet facilities, cafe and shop. We didn't use the cafe but it looked OK but you could always take a picnic as the courtyard/garden offers sunny sheltered spots. There are several walks around the ground and we followed the river walk and even though it was October it was a very pleasant walk. We were there on a Sunday and it was quite busy as the grounds appear to be well used by families out enjoying the fresh air.
Lots and lots of things to see and do here, we did the Riverside walk and it was amazing, we managed to spot a dipper! Wasn't a long walk but plenty of variety, you go through fields, along the river then through the walled garden which was lovely. A great place for a crisp autumn walk.
Visited on a Heritage Open Day, so it was free, otherwise its £16.50 per adult, which is quite expensive for a couple. Having said that, you could make a day of it. The grounds and woodland walk are beautiful. The hall is gorgeous, the staff were *fabulous* so friendly and helpful and the shop and cafe were surprisingly inexpensive. Very dog friendly, except, understandably the hall. A lovely visit. Only downside... do not visit the toilet near the pond in the little hut. Not so pleasant!
Lovely gardens and interesting Hall with a nice collection of doll houses. Also nice little cycle route for kids 6 years and over . Toilet facilities cafe gift shop with a variety of plants which I think were abit on the pricey side so didn't buy any. Lots of areas and playgrounds for kids to explore and play. Also bicycle hire shop here where you can also get a kids bike trailer as well, we didn't use it as we brought our own. In all a fun day out and I would visit again!
A lovely woodland walk through to the walled gardens. Unlike most stately homes these gardens were located quite a distance from the house but still worth the walk. Didn't visit inside the house during this visit but still had a lovely visit.
Went on a very rainy day. The rain stopped for an hour or so for us to walk round the beautiful walled garden and loved the Riverside walk. We were all adults but children would love it as lots of playgrounds and lawn games like croquet when we went. Bird hide great but perhaps not as many birds due to heavy rain. Only letdown was all food and drink served in disposable crockery and cutlery. Soup off a wooden spoon nor particularly nice At least it was environment friendly except plastic cups for water. Not good enough for National Trust really. Definitely recommend for gardens and walks.
Lovely House and Gardens all the Autumnal cours in bloom. The Red squirrels were working overtime foraging. Loads of activities for the kids and endless woods to explore. Thoroughly enjoyed my day.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Brilliant, you can spend the whole day here, from visiting the home, or looking at the historical surroundings to visiting the national trust shops, to venturing along the river gardens. The national trust have done a fantastic job with this site. A great example of why being a member is rewarding.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
