Nice hidden gem. Really nice place to go for a short walk and to take in some history. The castle remains are more than you would normally see. There are great info boards dotted about to give you a clear idea of what would of stood in the past. If you really go hunting you can also find and old iron water wheel hidden behind the castle. Definitely worth a visit. And nothing much beats the colours of autumn.
We visited all three Castles. With a huge space for picnics and walks. Dog friendly. Was quite busy when we visited. As we walked through to the supply stream we were met with a beautiful river. Lots of people were enjoying a swim. Thought it might be worth mentioning as my son would have loved a dip had we of had towels ect.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Stunning remains of a castle with tower. Free to enter. Great to wander around the inner walls and tower and then explore the outer wall through the river gate. Great for picnics and letting kids and dogs burn off excess energy.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Charming castle ruins which are free to enter. Managed to visit early morning with no-one else around, although it was also state funeral day. You can see it all in half an hour, but there are paths around the adjacent river to explore if you wish. No toilets or food at this location.
Great castle to explore, the walls on the eastern side by the river Monnow are well preserved. The castle looks to be constructed from local stone Devonian Old Red Sandstone and as with most of these buildings the stone was pilfered to enable local houses to be constructed after the castle outlived it's use.
Great place, really good history information and boards. Parking was easy, However no toilet which would make this place fantastic and look after us wearying travelers looking in on history. Well worth looking in if your passings or a special journey
A small castle part of the 3 Castles close to Abergavenny - Grosmont, Skenfrith and White Castle. Parking is limited by the side of the castle, entry is free, no toilets or cafe. It is next to the river Monnow which is accessible through the water gate. Interesting construction with a single round keep in the middle. There is a pretty church opposite that is also worth a visit.
Really interesting castle dating back to King John in the 13th Century. Gives an insight into life at that time. Interesting church from same period just around the corner.
Wonderful space to explore with river nearby spaces for picnics and relaxation. Village cafe nearby and church to further explore. 4 stars due to limited parking
Was a interesting visit.Never been to castle that was at the same level as the neighbouring river and overlooked by hills. The river used to flow all around the castle. Has the remnants of a medieval wharf, just opposite the church. Free to visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
