Beautiful house and garden. Great for long walks, picnic or run around. All events we've been to were really good. Kids loved it. It's a private property so checking opening time is needed, as they aren't open as most of the national trust places.
Visited with my partner, we are a younger couple, compared to most people visiting. We were watched by the staff continuously which made us feel uncomfortable. This isn’t the first national trust property we have been made to feel like this. We have an annual membership and it really puts a dampener on the experience. The grounds are lovely but make sure you check online the grounds are open before you visit.
Fantastic period stately home, set in the most beautiful grounds overlooking the River Lynher to the North. Beautiful gardens that are immaculately maintained by the host of volunteers responsible for the upkeep by the National Trust. Well worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Nice house, bit different as family still live there. Great big gardens for walking and lots of activities set out around the grounds, good for the kids. Incredible 250 yr old walnut tree!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Wow so many paintings but a lovely couple of hours wandering around the house and grounds. Lots of games for kids to play with in the grounds plenty of space and views for a picnic. Small cafe there too for snacks and drinks. Worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A really intriguing place, which we're fortunate to not live too far from. I must say the warm welcome we received both on arrival and once inside the house, was exceptional. The first few volunteers on the ground floor 2 men, was and a lady who's first day it was at the job really were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and talkative with my family and I. We really did appreciate their knowledge and time spent with us. My stepdaughters, in particular, certainly learnt a lot! The house has a lovely feel, possibly from the fact that it is very much lived in and loved. We adored the little touches here and there, from the youngest occupants! The only slight negatives from the day was the fact that we walked all the way down to the woodland walk, only to discover it was locked but no instruction was given verbally or on the map handed to us. Plus the cafe and shop was shut, which was a great shame, meaning we had to bring a flask and nibbles and have them in the wind and rain. Not the end of the world but whilst so many are extending their holidays this year, perhaps it was short-sighted to close the cafe so early in the season 19 Oct 21? We very much look forward to returning next year and exploring the grounds further. There's still lots to see! Again, many thanks to the exceptional volunteers who work there.
Lovely gardens but house nothing special. Only limited rooms open and seen better for admission, which was £10 per adult free parking. Guide in library added to visit with her knowledge. No shop or cafe but clean toilets and great area for walking.
Lovely house and grounds. One of the best stately homes I have visited. It is still a home for the family and the mix of old and new is a fantastic show of the evolution of the house.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Amazing place! And the volunteers are incredible here! Full of knowledge and so helpful. One of the most interesting visits I've done to a national trust house.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely house and grounds to look around. On our visit, they had lawn games which were good fun. The café is quite expensive so if sticking to a budget, bring a picnic.
