I recommend it, my son and I went there to explore and it was lovely. Lots to see for him and the lake was beautiful. Birds singing, dragonflies flying around. It was great. It cost 8 pounds to park and the gate closes at 4 pm. We spend 2 hours there and it was fairly busy. There's a shop and a facilities around the lake, we had a snack on a bench overlooking the lake, it was nice.
Always loved this area of outstanding natural beauty. It's huge so on a quiet day you usually don't see anyone. The lake is stunning and the cafe has a proper coffee machine and milk alternatives. The ladies at the cafe and the staff in the used book store are wonderful, friendly, chatty. They all seem genuinely happy to be at work which really shows how this place can impact you if you're feeling a little low. Very dog friendly, magical place. Highly recommended for family's, couples, hikers and dog walkers. Or all four mixed together x
Payed online very easily, this made our arrival and parking much better no queueing. Had a fantastic walk in and out of the forest. Finished with a lovely hot chocolate. Will always recommend coming here. Great place to photograph!
Went for a really lovely walk around the lake and fields. Parking was a little pricey £8 but I'm not a member and the place so beautiful it definitely made up for that! Loads of dens have been made in the woods so the kids loved playing in them and building more!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
A particularly nice open space for dog walkers and ramblers. Very muddy in winter, so bring your wellies. Decent place for kids, though not many structured activities or infrastructure for little ones. Cafe is bare bones at the moment with supply issues, but the food and drinks you can get are good. The staff at the shop are particularly nice and welcoming. Good day out.
A very nice Forest near Bishops Stortford. There is a car park at the main entrance or you can drive up to the other car park which is close to the cafe. There is a footpath which takes you to the lake and the cafe. Great place for a picnic and a day out for families.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Make sure you book in advance for parking. Huge lake to walk around. So many paths and tracks you can easily walk around the forest and surrounding areas for hours. Trees to climb, bugs to hunt. Fun for all the family. Dogs welcome all around the park. Tea / coffee and snacks available with plenty of seating. Picnics are allowed too. Toilets close to car park and cafe.
Absolutely beautiful, tranquil place to come and pass the time. It’s got everything you need in a country park. Cafe and toilets are within the grounds, drinks and snacks are very reasonably priced too. I find the car park is a tad expensive for non members, at £8, but this is the National Trust so it’s to be expected. Nice open space to walk your dog around the lake as well. Will definitely be back again, the price of the car park hasn’t put me off.
Beautiful park, with a nice rail-line-turned-trail alongside. The grounds are well maintained and interestingly laid out. There's lots of unique areas to explore. It's a shame about the airport and motorway being so close, but otherwise it's some wonderful countryside, great for a day out. Transport connections are poor, and the parking is unusually regulated, so check in advance
Let me begin with the fact that only to be here cost £8,50 basically parking charge next change to park your car in the forest but hold on there is no normal situation when you would park in the forest I mean I rather park outside then take a walk this is how you walk in the forest but no not here you must park in the yes you understand this right you must because there is no other choice not only you post to park inside the forest but really environmental friendly but do you have to pay for it that's what we call here in England daylight Robbery because you get here and there is Gate End and a sweet lady very sweet lady I'm not saying debt she's not sweet it's just you know she's asking for you to pay £8,50.- for parking the forest and when I asked her why would I park in the forest?! Because someone painted double red lines what is the way down by the forest so you can't walk enough so I said excuse me then I paid ok before it is beautiful and actually I found a nice carbon I thought this is X cabin but it's actually nothing just to bird watching thing so it's still not really.. and I am living in Bayswater London I'm paying parking charges believe me but be honest that's a 420+parking 4:20 Anyway nice park you you probably going to like it especially if you're not coming alone because you two of you coming I mean to in one car then you're going to pay the same parking charge imagine it for a few off you coming it's already 2 quid so it's not so bad is it I mean you can park in a forest
