Such a great gift shop in a beautiful theatre. There is a wide array of gifts and souvenirs to buy- I would highly recommend the National Theatre Honey, made from the bees that they keep on the roof of the theatre. Additionally, there are books of many different genres and a reading area as well.
they have a really wonderful selection of plays, a lot of which you can't really find anywhere else so definitely worth checking out if you like theatre. there's even a cosy reading corner in the shop, and the whole building is also very cool and worth exploring, with lots of spots to sit and read or even get some work done there are even charging ports!.
It’s a lovely bookshop that people can spend some time before theatre time. They have some souvenirs and books related to the performances going on at the national theatre. What I like most is the small reading corner inside the book shop. Just one star deducted because I wish the reading corner would be a bit bigger.
A very good bookshop, not only theatre related but wider cultural aspects such as architecture. Staff are helpful.
The young lad who served me obviously had some form of disability and he was on till unsupervised and did everything wrong. I haven't got a problem with people with a disability but they should only be given tasks that they can do if they aren't supervised. However coffee was lovely when I eventually got it.
My children and I passed some time here. They had a great selection of sociological books. I bought "Why I'm no longer talking to white people about race" which I'd been meaning to read for ages and there were so many other books I'd have liked to read. There's a children's section too. A really nice place to hang out while you wait for a show on the South Bank.
Getting a cup of coffee and cake proved to be a bizarre experience. If there are trainee barristers on duty, someone needs to - a monitor and supervise their progress, and b implement their re-training where necessary.
"Papa..." Daughter#2 said to me as we had a browse around the book shop, "what's this book about...?" "Hmmmm...?" I said, somewhat distracted by an edition of a rare Mills & Boon novel I had been after for some time. "Which book?" Daughter #2 held out the book for my visual inspection. "This one. It's called 'Weird Fu-'" "Yes, thank you, darling!" I cried, snatching the book from her hands. "That's a book for Mummies and Daddies, not little girls. " "Papa, I'll be 27 next birthday." "Yes, I know, but... Oh, look! " I said, using a tried and tested distraction technique perfected by parents the world over, "isn't that famous actor Sir Ian McKellen over there?" "No, that's a security staff member." "Sir Ian might be researching a role..." "Whatever..."
Interesting and eclectic mix of things to buy from play texts and books to greeting cards and children toys to play specific items and jewellery gifts. It is a great place to meet people when going to the National Theatre as it is in a central place on the ground floor. Insider tip, you get 10% off when using Amex in the shop.
Very good selection and excellent customer service. Would heartily recommend.
