This Museum and also the walking tour is a must do to get an idea of what went on in Derry 50 plus years ago. Our guide was Noel and what an account you get of the Bloody Sunday civil rights peace walk . Powerful stuff and also really interesting . The murals or the people's gallery are all amazing and worth seeing with your own eyes ..
Me and my friends went to the Museum of Free Derry today and originally we were nervous coming to this part of the north of Ireland considering the history and the fact all of us are British, especially in a place like Derry. However, the friendly staff put our mind at ease immediately. The museum was incredibly interesting and learning about the history of the troubles was the highlight of our visit. To top it all off, we met Billy McVeigh outside the museum and got to take a picture with him and learn about his story. Overall, a 5/5 experience!

The Museum of Free Derry tells the story of the civil rights movement, the Troubles in Derry, and the events leading to Bloody Sunday from the perspective of the local nationalist community. Located in the Bogside, it features personal testimonies, photographs, films, and original artifacts donated by those who experienced the conflict. The museum provides a powerful, human account of one of Northern Ireland’s most turbulent periods and explains how Bloody Sunday changed the course of the conflict. It’s one of the best places to visit for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of Derry’s modern history.
What an eye opening experience. Prices are very generous and the staff were extremely friendly, shoutout to the American guy working the desk he was so nice. It’s a small museum but packs a lot into it and really squeezes the heart and forces you to see the reality of the troubles. If you’re willing to go in with an open mind you’ll have an unforgettable experience.
