Offered NHS operation at Hinchingbrooke on 1st September. Due to certain problems I needed to be cared for in a private ward afterwards. I understood why Mulberry Ward could not say for certain if accommodation would be available. However I asked if it would be possible for me to be admitted to Mulberry on the day before the operation 31st August if a bed was likely to be available.This was to avoid early morning travel to be admitted to Birch NHS ward. Wendy said that this was a bit unusual but promised to ring me on the morning of 23rd August if it would be possible to do this. Subject to availability. As I heard nothing I thought that this day early admittance was not going to be feasible. My GP then started to make inquiries for me to be admitted to a private hospital as an NHS patient. On 31st August a gentleman rang saying that they were expecting me in Mulberry. This came as a shock. As Wendy had not got in touch with me as promised I did not have an operation on 1st September and Mulberry lost £325 per night funding. Very poor lack of communication on the part of Mulberry staff!!! If you are offering accommodation only you must understand that the patient needs to have a concrete offer. At present everything is left very much to chance. If you cannot make a firm booking do not bother at all. You are going to being paid £325 per night so you must offer more certainty for the money. Not expect a patient to be left not knowing what is going to happen. Having an operation is stressful enough. It is wrong for you to expect your bread to be buttered on both sides.
Professional, knowledgeable and reassuring. Staff are excellent, friendly and kind.
