Over 400 years old, this stately home is a stunning place to visit. The architecture inside and out is amazing, as is the formal landscaping and gardens. The presentation of the three floors of the house have faithfully recreated and must be seen to be fully appreciated. Walking around the gardens, orangery and fountain garden is just a wonderful experience especially on sunny days. We highly recommend this place to visit.
Beautiful Elizabethan house in such good condition that you can easily imagine living there. Fascinating stories and impressive artworks add to the whole experience. The gardens are also beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. We have already been there a few times now.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Stunning National Trust building and grounds. Lovely gardens and grounds to walk in and cafe. The house has a generous portrait gallery and the scale of the building is impressive. As will most National Trust sites the area is accessible where possible and tries to cater for all, whether elderly or families. Highly recommend. Also, and odd thing to comment on - but one of the most impressive hedges I’ve ever seen.
A real jewel in the National Trust crown. The house itself is a great example of renaissance architecture and beautiful to look at. Three floors to explore with the bonus of a portrait collection from the National Gallery. The grounds are large with formal gardens and woodland areas with plenty of picnic spots. The cafe area is situated in a nice courtyard with plenty of cover.
Visited today and such a beautiful house full of history. The gardens are also lovely and great to relax in. Definitely recommend this place for a visit if you haven't been before
This left an everlasting impression on us after our visit here. Beautiful grounds absolutely breath taking. Amazing building both inside and out. Well looked after. I would highly recommend a visit here. Pack up a picnic there's lots to see.
The house is Dressed for the 30's and was celebrating The Lion the witch and the wardrobe. Some of the original sketches and watercolours were on display. We had a very pleasant ½ day wandering around the grounds between rain showers and the house. As with nearly all National trust properties the volunteers were knowledgeable and helpful. We'll worth a visit.
Beautifully preserved 16th century Manor House with interesting grounds. Appropriate for people of all ages and dogs welcome. Plan on a two to three hour visit to appreciate everything.
Lovely place for a family day out. Found the house to be stunning and enjoyed wondering around viewing the art and beautiful furnishings. The gardens are great for a little picnic in the sun. Some amazing trees and plants are around. Would be great for a dog walk around the grounds. Will definitely visit again soon.
Montacute house currently houses a selection of portraits from the national portrait gallery, the house is grand enough to impress and has a wonderful 54.2 metre long room that makes you run to run from one end to the other. A cafe, a shop and 3 walks around the the grounds. It has a great hedge as well.
