University Hospital Monklands

Story

Monklands District General Hospital, is a district general hospital in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Administered by NHS Lanarkshire, it serves a population of approximately 260,000 people of North and South Lanarkshire council areas. In 2009 there were proposals to downgrade the accident and emergency A&E department which were reversed by the newly elected Scottish Government.HistoryIn 1887 Sir John Wilson Bt JP - a late 19th-century businessman and local politician - bought the Airdrie House estate. Upon his death, he bequeathed the land to the people of Airdrie and it became the local maternity hospital (Airdrie House Maternity Home Hospital) in 1919. This closed in 1962 and was demolished in 1964 to make way for the current Monklands District General Hospital. Monklands was the first new hospital, that is, one which did not provide new accommodation for an existing hospital to be built in Scotland in the post World War II era. Planned to be known as 'Airdrie District General Hospital', it was renamed with the introduction of local council reorganisation, to Monklands District General Hospital. The first patients were admitted in 1977, however, some hospital departments were open in 1974 including the College of Nursing.

I was at to go to Monklands Accident and Emergency for abdominal pain as instructed by out of hours service was seen quick but had to wait 12 hours + in a&e for a bed in medical assessment unit to wait for CT scan. I was then moved to ward four to wait for results and hear from surgical team next morning I had to go to theatre for keyhole surgery and staff packed my belongings and which I later found out my good phone charger was missing then I also lost a pair of trainers. Overall the staff on ward 26 and ward 7 and theatre staff were friendly and caring.
21..11.22 A&E had a 20 hour waiting time My husband waited patiently to be seen and that was with a Doctors referral, hours past eventually got triage, put on oxygen, fluid in his lungs, eventually got bed H.D.U,5 days, hes doing better and hopefully come home in the next few days.
The Dermatology department is the worst department I been to. Nurses were lovely but the 2 Doctor that I seen were unpleasant and rude. Diagnosed me with something I didn't have then told me to go to my appointment to treatment room next week to get arm dressed, when I went nursing staff told me I been discharged
I can't complain I was seen resonably quick compared to others and the doctor was able to unblock my stent. Over all the staff and doctors were very nice considering the pressure they were under. I would never knock the NHS. They do an amazing job under extreme conditions and circumstances. THANK YOU NHS.
ED department excellent, fast service. Unfortunately had to attend twice with family members and in both occasions our experience was the same. Out of A&E withing less than 3 hrs. Very impressed
Maybe a new building will mprove the effectiveness of the Emergency Dept at Monklands Hospital. Tonight a 9 hour wait for Almost everyone.Only a few mismatched chairs for those waiting. The shop closed , the vending machine.. broken , the lighting headache inducing and staff quietly shouting names behind muffling masks. I am appalled at the quality of facilities and saddened at the dismal lack of information. A TV screen gives info but too bad if you can't read! Really sad that this is the best they can offer the people of North Lanarkshire.
Not a good experience. Poor nursing care. Very little adherence to infection control measures. Had to chase up follow up procedure. No accountability from staff. I hope other areas of the hospital are better than my experience
1 Star * My MUM, . - Laura ward 7 Refused me time to visit my mother after ward COVID lockdowns hospotal staff said they didn't care + other nurses were ready to put there hands on me when moved to ward 2 - I didn't want any kind of shouting or physical violence were people were sick , So after the nurse tried to detain me in a room and threats of police , I left heart broken couldn't spend time with my mum , I called the police and they said they NHS have no legal obligation to put restrictions on you from visiting your sick mother after sister's building up imaginary cases against me , So on the 06/06/2022 my mum passed on and I was refused time with her for 2 day's ? - Shame On Louise & Julie + The NHS" to busy ordering Takeaways and doing TickTock rehearsal dancings ....; My Mum Heard My Voice 3 Hours Before She Passed On I Was Standing Outside the room she was in - God Bless Mum
Extremely short staffed but the ones that work there are a credit to the NHS. Especially Jamie staff nurse and Andrew doctor . NHS is priceless !
Endoscopy staff Nurses and Doctor today amazing. So caring and helpful Very kind and friendly . Very thorough and professional Absolutely amazing. Put me at ease throughout
