Cute area for a pond swim. Site is regularly tested and plenty of life guards around. It you go make sure you get a ticket first . Small area to sunbathe
Beautiful spot for swimming on Hampstead Heath. £4.70 for adults but it’s a unique place to swim so can’t complain too much. Basic areas for changing, two showers and toilets. Not much space for sitting but then this is really about swimming. Surrounded by big trees at the swimming end but people can see you from the bridge at the far end. So you can feel smug and wave. Mixed pool so no nudity. Plenty of space to swim or just chill on a buoy.
Excellent ParknnThe Pond was contaminated with toxic algaes.....nnBlue-green algae cyanobacteria can contaminate water bodies and pose serious health risks to both humans and animals. These algae can produce toxins that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and skin, eye, or throat irritation upon contact or ingestion. In more severe cases, liver damage and neurological symptoms may occur.nnThe presence of ducks and other aquatic birds is closely linked to the growth of blue-green algae for several reasons:nnNutrient enrichment: Feces from birds contain high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus, which act as fertilizers that promote algal blooms.nnStagnant water conditions: Areas frequented by waterfowl are often shallow and still, providing ideal conditions for algae to thrive.nnEcosystem disruption: Overgrazing by birds can reduce aquatic vegetation, allowing algae to grow unchecked.nnOrganic waste buildup: Feathers, leftover food, and droppings increase the organic load in the water, further supporting algal growth.nnThese blooms not only pose a health threat to humans but can also harm birds and other wildlife that ingest the contaminated water.nnavoid contact with water that appears green, scummy, or has a strong musty odor.nDo not let children or pets swim in or drink from affected areas.
Very stupid, rude, annoying, pathetic that you do not allow walk ins and bookings only when it’s not that even that busy… what happened to spontaneity? It’s not Glastonbury… It’s a heatwave and people want to swim and exercise in the cooling water. Let the people swim! Don’t turn us away! You can fit over 500 people in the lake with no issues. Seriously management should reconsider their policies. Totally ridiculous! The one star review is for the very strict gate keeper working on 19th June and incompetent management.
I love swimming here. It’s such a special and beautiful place to swim and probably the best “wild” swimming you can find near central London. It can be a bit expensive and probably busy in the summer months with the swimming slots. But the autumn swimming is amazing and not busy with great vibes and there’s a winter swimming club.nnMy best friend and I swim every two weeks and it’s so special and awesome. Also the birds!nnWater is a bit creepy and murky but it’s all safe.
