A dream site from mid-ages. With its quiet river, green prairies, trees and footpaths, it's a wonderful place to walk alone, as a couple or family watch out kids. Near Oxford and just at the border of Cotswolds, it's a dream place. When you arrive, you just see a old fashioned chapel, but as you walk in, you'll see much more. All the basements and some walls are there, from the old house, stables and more. Ancient times are there for you to walk in and around. It's incredible that all this old building is so accessible to anyone. A great place you can miss if you get around.
Beautiful place to bring the family for a quiet afternoon by the river, sitting amongst a stunning English Heritage landscape. Free to get in and wander about - pack a picnic!
Very lovely and secluded place…there is very little parking however it’s a short walk from there, through the church yard and your there. Well worth the visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A beautiful place for a Bank Holiday Riverside picnic! Perfect! Arrive early for the parking, else it gets full quickly!
Recreation, history and nature. Life can be hard and full of challenges, but with a positive attitude, you can overcome anything. One of the most essential tools for success is charging yourself up each day. This means having the energy and determination to take on whatever comes your way. Recreation is important for our mental and physical health. Minster Lovell Hall and Dovecote is a beautiful example of medieval architecture. The hall was first built in the 13th century, and the dovecote was added in the 15th century. The buildings are made of limestone, and they have intricate carvings on the windows and doors. The hall has a large Great Hall with a fireplace and a timber-frame roof. The dovecote has a conical roof and is open to the public. Take a walk in the nature, go for a hike, or visit a nature preserve. Not only will you be getting some exercise, but you'll also be improving your mental health. Outdoor recreation can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also improve your mood and increase your sense of well-being.
Directions were a little off to get to ruins & only a very small carpark by church but head to church for most direct route to ruins. For minimal disruption to residents,I parked near pub & took the 10 minute stroll through village.Impressive ruins with river running by. For a bank holiday Monday it was reasonably quiet. Nice grassed areas to have a picnic& stroll along river bank. Good signs up with information relating to Minster Lovell Hall. Bear in mind ground can be a little uneven in places.Plenty of open space around to exercise kids & dogs. Looked like nice pub in village, chocolate box houses with lovely gardens.
A classic example of a British homestead and life in a bygone era, majestic in the tale that the ruins relate in their towering form.
Parked in the cricket club car park for a walk in the area. Was quite muddy in January, but managable. The hall itself is a pleasant ruin with a number of information boards explaining the history of the place. Entry is free, which is a bonus. Great day out in the Cotswolds!
Unfortunately due to the hot weather the river was low & it was too steep for our older dog to be able to get in. Nice walk around the ruins thoughVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
