A nice place but didn't seem to live up to the hype. Cafe was nice and the staff are friendly
Bit of a strange atmosphere. Staff were turning people away at 3.10pm claiming last orders were at 3pm, even though the sign outside said open until 4pm. A pot of tea for two £6 A very small slice of cake £3.50 The cake was good but the pot of tea was half empty, only enough water to barely fill the cups. These prices seem unjustifiable. Staff were very friendly though!
Worth a visit. You can fill your belly with good food carrot cake is especially nice from the cafe downstairs and visit the gallery, book shop and learn quite a lot about local history upstairs. There's also a tourist information there with leaflets, walking trails etc. Also, a detailed map/model of Gatehouse of Fleet. The galery features arts and crafts made by the local artists. We were there soon after they reopened after the lockdown and they only served cakes, scones and tea and coffee. Staff are nice. Toilets are clean. John Watt's coffee seems to be popular in the area. You need to decide whether it's to your taste or not. Seats are available inside and out. On a nice day it's nice to sit outside. River Fleet runs right by the mill and there's plenty of wildlife too.
Beautiful building with cafe, gallery with local arts and crafts, bookshop and lots of local history about the area with children's activities such as dressing up or making wool! Working models of water wheels etc too. There is lift to the upper floors. Nice outside seating for cafe. Toilets. free parking near by. Nice cakes in the cafe!
Brilliant Cafe. Loads of seating inside and out next to the river. Dog friendly. Staff were really nice and friendly. Our dog even got a free cake. :- There is an old book shop within the building too. Outside you can cross the river into the park... Nice location...
Community based visitor centre, nice cafe, great social story to tell and mad bookshop.
Enjoyed a short visit to Mill On The Fleet. The museum is a striking example of an eighteenth century water powered, stone built, cotton mill. The mill was constructed not long after the pioneering Arkwright's Mill in Derbyshire. It houses a museum, bookshop, art gallery and coffee shop. The coffee shop staff are very welcoming as well as knowledgeable about the history of the area. Worth a detour to visit the mill and explore the village.
Popped into the Mill just to get information from Tourist Info, ended up staying for a couple of hours going through all the village history and associated area and industrial heritage.
Great building and some interesting information inside but very poor internal design and quite dingy and depressing. The book shop is piles of old books with a narrow path winding around them all. A section of crafts for sale and a cafe downstairs. Such a shame as it could have been transformed into such a spectacular place.
A quick stop to check out the gallery, we were greeted by friendly artist Tom Goff, who was full of information. Some really nice artistic flair in the gallery.
