Lovely museum and obligatory visit in Welwyn! There was a temporary exhibition of Welwyn’s Football club from the 1920’s. We got an in depth tour by a lovely lady who explained Welwyn’s history to us. We had a mill demonstration at the end. I'm not a person that often writes reviews, nor one that gives a five star rating for that matter, but I can't think of a place that more deserves a brilliant review than this one. I went here last week and I'm still thinking about how wonderful it was. Memories of my wonderful and interesting conversation with Mike the Miller make me smile at inappropriate times during my day. I'd also like to give special commendation to the lovely man that was working at the front desk at the beginning and the cafe at the end, and the brilliant woman that was working in the shop. Its incredible how everyone I met here seems to care about this place so much. I will admit when I was brought here I didn't expect to enjoy it very much, but now I'm telling everyone who'll listen about how lovely my experience was. As a final note, I will urge you as other reviews have to get the cream tea. The scones are made with flour they milled on site, and the emperor grey tea will change your life. Thank you for a wonderful day out to all the people at Mill Green Museum and Mill on Sunday the 6th of November!!
Needed an alternative visit on a rainy day where roads were flooding, and found the mill by chance. We’ve never felt so at ease and cared for at a tourist attraction anywhere. Sorry not to be more enthusiastic but we went today based on the great reviews, and we were very disappointed. Upon entering we were met with three small rooms of local photos and information that are readily available online or in most books about old Hatfield. Then we looked at the mill, which was not in operation, and the water wheel, which likewise was not in operation. We did all of the above VERY slowly in 20 minutes, but we could actually have seen everything in half the time. We then went to the cafe for a cream tea, but it was closed. Another 3 minutes to see the garden, and that was it. £5 for entry is cheap these days, but it is truly wrong to be charged an admission fee when the mill is not in use, the cafe is closed, and there is very little to see or do. A walk around the local library would have been just as interesting!
It's a long time since I was last here, with new exhibits. It was interesting to see the mill running even if not grinding. Me and the kids love this place. They put on great craftfs/baking workshops during school holidays. Very friendly staff help the little ones out with eye spy searches etc. The staff talk you round the ever changing museum exhibitions even tho a small room But main attraction the mill itself is explained well to older children who can make it up the tight steps. Very interactive. Lovely garden to walk around. Well worth a few hours. Only a few parking spaces so arrive earlier.

Excellent local museum. Visit when the mill is working, brilliant, or when they have special events and exhibitions, sometimes outside in the good weather. Nice tea shop too.
