Story

Previously operating as St James‘ Church Pre-School, Meltham Community Pre-School is located at the Baptist Chapel on Mean Lane, next to Morrisons.

Based at the heart of our Community we’ve loads to offer your little ones in our morning pre-school sessions.

Our premises enables us to offer your children a fantastic high quality childcare experience. We have a big and bright playroom setting with outside play area and gardens, that enables us to create a fun and stimulating learning environment for your children.

We are open in term-time only Monday to Friday from 9:15am until 1:15pm for children aged 2 to 4 years, with funded places for all over 3s and funding for eligible 2 year olds!

Between 12:15pm and 1:15pm we operate a Lunch Club, giving you an often essential extra hour, and we also have a Drop ‘n Shop scheme. This service allows you to use us just like a creche when you need extra childcare, perhaps while you do your shopping or visit the doctors. You’ll be able to leave your child with us during pre-school hours for up to 3 hours taking advantage of our facilities on an ad hoc basis.

Taking my niece and nephew to Meltham Community Preschool was a wonderful  experience. The caring staff, engaging activities, and stimulating environment made it the perfect introduction to education for them. They provide a good mix of play, education and social development, which really helped them when they transitioned into school. I will be bringing my little one here in the future, highly recommended!

Meltham Community Preschool is an exceptional setting that boasts a team of caring and supportive staff members who are truly passionate about their work with children. It is a pleasure to witness both of my children seamlessly settle into this warm and friendly environment. As I drop them off each day, it is abundantly clear that the children thoroughly enjoy their time with the staff, as evidenced by the beaming smiles on their faces as they eagerly make their way to the entrance. It is truly heartwarming to witness such positive relationships being fostered.  The staff at Meltham Community Preschool go above and beyond to ensure that every child feels safe, secure, and heard. They are always quick to respond with comfort and affection whenever a child seeks solace, whether it be through a reassuring word, a warm smile, or even a comforting hug. Their dedication to the emotional well-being of the children is truly commendable.  I am particularly grateful for the additional support that was provided to my eldest child, who has since moved on to school. He required assistance with his sensory processing, and the staff at Meltham Community Preschool offered me non-judgmental support and understanding. They went the extra mile to help him get referred to SENS Special Educational Needs Support, SALT Speech and Language Therapy, and even communicated with the school he transitioned to. Their commitment to his continued development and success is truly remarkable.

My daughter started pre-school aged 2, being an only child, we thought it would be important for her socially and also for her developmentally wise.  When we went for our initial look round, we just knew.. That Meltham Community preschool was exactly what we were looking for. The staff go above and beyond and are very welcoming.  We knew our precious daughter would be well looked after and would fit right in.  It's a traditional pre-school with traditional values whilst also keeping up with the ever changing technology and the world in general. The staff are excellent. They possess all the required skills on a professional level, as well as being nurturing, warm, and fair. They work alongside us as parents to teach our little one all the early learning skills she requires before her move up to infant school.  My partner and I, and more importantly, our daughter, highly recommend Meltham Community Pre-school. As do ofstead.

We live between Meltham and Holmfirth so decided that our son would have a few days each week at 2 different pre-schools.  First, I have to say the manager/head is amazing with a fantastic team behind her. She only has the best interests of all the children in the pre-school and we could see this when we went for our open day visit.  Our son has moved on to primary now and I occasionally see the manager. She always stops me to ask how he is doing now.  They all have a genuine interest in the children and their progression. A great pre-school, great team and now improved further with new investment in equipment and space.

My little girl first went to meltham community pre-school and she has additional needs, Jane and all the staff went above and beyond to help me and get a support plan in place and all this followed on to school with the up most care from Jane! I can’t thank her enough, then I went on to send her little brother here who still attends now and loves it, he goes in with a smile on his face and comes out with a smile on his face. Nothing is more satisfying than that - he’s very happy and settled here and I’ll be gutted when he has to start school next year, I will miss all the staff and so will he but for now… we ain’t going anywhere Jane and staff
