I have been using Matthews for many years. I have cats and dogs and he has always taken good care of them I had a lovely cat that was nearly 23 years old when she passed away, Matthews looked after her throughout her life. towards the end she had many visits to the vets and he always took such good care of her. i now have a dog that i entails regular visits to the vets and he always gives me good advice. Last time i was really worried and he was great and put my mind at ease reassuring me that it was not as serious as i thought. He said that i could take her back or ring anytime if i was worried or she deteriorated. I have been to other vets and whilst the environment maybe nicer i have yet to find a vet that offers a simple but knowledgeable service at a good price. I have been to vets where i have been advised to undergo expensive tests and treatment that has not resolved the problem i would be happy to pay the price if the treatment was successful. I have then gone to Matthews and he has sorted the problem out and its been a fraction of the price. People comment on his manner and yes on occasion i would agree his mood might be termed a "bit grumpy". but in the main he has been friendly and polite, I would not go to another vet unless Matthews referred me!
I have used Mr Matthews for nearly 20 years for the health and medical care of my two cats and my more recent addition of my puppy Labrador, and I have always received excellent service from him. He may not be the cheeriest of vets but he provides honest and sometimes brutal advice on how to treat and care for your pet and he genuinely cares for animals. He will tell you when you do things wrong, but he is highly experienced and doesn't offer unnecessary costly treatment. When one of my cats developed cancer and also when I had to have my other cat put to sleep, he showed true compassion. The reception staff are always friendly and helpful and also offer good advice for minor ailments. I would, and have, highly recommend Mr Matthews to everyone.
I have been going to Mr Matthews for years with my pets as also has most of my family. Although sometimes he can appear moody this is just his personality as well as telling you if you are in the wrong, which he has me a few times. He is a brilliant vet that cares about the animals he looks after. I recently had to have my dog put to sleep and he was fantastic, although straight to the point he was very caring and showed a lot of empathy. We love you Mr Matthews, keep up the good work.
Absolutely shocking be warned steer clear. Sold insurance but then advised no insurance. Dog needed emergency treatment. Advised I would pay, manager completely up her self made up loads of lies and tried to get my partner to put a payment plan on someone else’s name. I asked if that was legal or even ethical the manager then ordered us to leave. I advised we can not as I have a sick dog. She then advised she was calling the police. We had to leave with a completely sick dog. On the way out she advised my partner she did not appreciate her partner pointing in her face. My partner advised he was absolutely no where near you to the point you did not see him when you tried to get me to break the law. We reported this to the head office who advised they would look into and they have failed to come back. Since mentioning this to people, I have been advised that a ex employee left as they over charged people and it was about targets not the animals. Please please be careful do not go to this practise without a witness and don’t take what they say as the truth get a second opinion.

I have been bringing my pets here for years, Mr Matthews has always been very professional. He genuinely cares for animals and is a brilliant vet. He may sometimes be a bit short and abrupt with people but that is just how he is. At the end of the day he knows what he is talking about and the animals welfare is always his main concern. I will continue to use him and also recommend him to others.
Totally shocking. People complained about Mr Matthews manner towards people but at least he cared about the animals he was treating. The vet in Syston is just terrible. Terrible communication skills not to mention its lack of ability to send off blood samples on time and correctly. He gives limited information that have left us making incorrect decisions . His lack of urgency and compassion has left us heart broken as we now say goodbye to our beloved dog. He gave the incorrect dose needed to extend her quality of life and make her comfortable. He assured us that she would be alright for up to another 3 year. It’s all about money and how many animals he can supposedly treat. We made the decision to seek advice from the vet in Thurmaston who has been great same company medivet. Prime example off a so called professional human and our naivety . Just because you pass exams and you are in a caring position does not make you right for the job. Not even worth the one star awarded.
