Visited 230+ times over the last 3.5 years, it’s where I go for lunch when things get busy. Generally slightly worse than what you would expect from other UK McDonalds.nnFirst, the fries taste much worse than average McDonald’s fries. There is a hint of bitterness, which probably comes from not changing the oil often enough. Also, they often sit too long before being served and turn soggy. The bitterness improved in winter 2024, but it is still noticeably worse than other UK McDonalds at times.nnSecond, service is quick if you order things that have an existing pipeline, for example, a Big Mac meal with medium fries and Coke. However, it gets extremely slow when your order contains more than one item and includes any “wild” items like a Grilled Chicken salad, small fries because it is not in any meal, or porridge at breakfast. In the most extreme case, I waited 21 minutes for an order with three items at 3:30pm, when it wasn’t busy at all. One-item orders get prioritised, so ordering separately might help if you want rarer things.nnThird, while most work hard and are very friendly, some employees apparently do not like their job. A couple of times, I’ve been handed my food really rudely. And on one occasion, more than half of the employees were chatting in the kitchen while a bunch of people were waiting for their food.nnThis McDonald’s is like a snapshot of all restaurants in Cambridge: they get away with worse offerings and higher prices, because it’s Cambridge — the place where everyone wants to catch a glimpse. Everything is like a knockdown version of what you get in London. The name carries the shine, and the everyday details are allowed to slip: a little less crisp, a little less cared for, but still busy, still moving, still somehow coasting on reputation. I keep coming back anyway, because when things get hectic, familiarity matters more than perfection. It’s kind of like a beacon of light for me not on Christmas and Boxing Day.
The food quality is not bad but lack of love, professionalism and dedication to service which is not upto mark. They just serve the order as per by book but no idea how to really make those “a food”. The sitting area is sufficient enough and the cleaning staffs are very sincere and professional.
Visited this McDonald’s for lunch a couple of days ago and felt it deserved a review, despite it not being the type of place I’d usually comment on. I was genuinely impressed from the moment I walked in. The restaurant was well-presented, bright, and noticeably clean, which immediately set a positive tone.nnI used the self-service machines to place my order, and the process was fast and straightforward. My food was prepared promptly, and when my number was called, the gentleman behind the counter took a brief moment to ask how I was doing. It was such a small gesture, but it added a very human touch to what can often feel like quite a clinical, transactional experience. Those two seconds of genuine interaction made a surprising difference.nnThe food itself was very enjoyable. Everything was hot and fresh, with the exception of the fries, which unfortunately seemed a little tired by the time I made my way upstairs to sit down. Not enough to spoil the meal, but noticeable.nnOverall, a really pleasant visit and far better than expected for a quick lunch stop. Happy to recommend this location.
The better of the two Mcdonald’s. Staff are on point, genuinely helpful and attentive even when it’s packed.nnI had an issue with my order last week it was resolved very quickly and even upgraded, the staff even recognise me and greet me some days. Really lovely. Thank you.
This is a good branch of McDonald's. The service is fast and friendly, and it is clean and tidy throughout.nnThere are lots of self-service ordering kiosks within the shop, and orders are usually ready pretty quickly.nnThere are plenty of seats, with additional seating upstairs, although they close off access to the upstairs seating area during quieter periods.nnThe only downside to this branch, is that homeless people/druggies always come in and ask the customers for money .
