Been a few years since I've been to Maureen's pie mash and wasn't disappointed, ample mash, liquor full of flavour and the Pie unique to Maureen's since they started. Served by local friendly and welcoming Eastend staff. Lovely and clean. If you're passing and fancy pie mash give it a go you won't be disappointed.
I just had a lunch at Maureen's Pie and Mash. The place is very authentic and does jellied eel, salt beef bagels, veggie options etc. Staff is very friendly. It gives a true feel of East End. Regarding the food - the pie was nice and crisp, the liquor packed with parsley. To my taste mash was quite bland, but suppose thats the genuine flavour without any twists like mustard and butter etc. I seasoned it all a lot It definitely works for people on low sodium diet. The portion was nice and hearty. I am very curious to try their other produce. If you are hungry and in the area, it is absolutely worth a visit! Support local! They take cards as well.
This is actually my favorite Pie & Mash place!!! And I’ve tried goddards, canning town and east end pie and mash. The pies are fresh, meaty and delicious. The staff is extremely nice every time I’m there! Their specialty is also salt beef sandwiches and bagels! I’ve tried the sandwich recently and it was delicious and well worth the price! Watch out for the mustard though as it is quite strong! I recommend to everyone for a quick, cheap and tasty lunch!
Fantastic pie, mash & liquor. Everything was piping hot. Portion size was huge making it very good value for money. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely go back!
An iconic place with an iconic dish, Maureen serves up delicious fare at unbeatable prices. The pastry is light and crisp. It isnt as decadent as those you might find in central london, but this works in its favor because it isnt as surfeiting. The beef mince encased within is deliciously soft, it has a hearty beef flavor without any of the gaminess. Goes really well with the liquor. Liquor for the uninitiated is a lucious, thick, parsley sauce that just calls out for a splash of vinegar. In all honesty this isnt my thing, yet Id still recommend coming for the warmth the dish, staff, and memories this place affords you. I never grew up in the countryside eating grandma's pie and mash yet I walked out feeling like I did. Oh and the £1 coffee? Stunning. As smooth as the liquor. I hope someone puts up some pics of the stewed eels or more of the salt beef beigels!
Lovely pie and mash, authentic experience - does what it’s supposed to do - leave you feeling full and happy when you leave! Friendly staff who actually care about you! Would highly recommend if in the area
I visited at lunchtime on a Friday. The place is spotless, the staff were friendly, funny, lovely people. I had two pies, one mash, and a cup of tea. I've visited a few of the traditional East End Pie & Mash establishments, and this place is #1 in my opinion. It's a bit of a trip from Essex for me, but I will be back soon. Delicious! They take card payment too which makes things nice and easy :-
We’ve all got our favourite Pie & Mash shops, usually linked to where we grew up as kids. I always compared different shops to the old Kelly’s at the Parnell Road end of the Roman. But they are long gone, and I have tried all the others since. The many Kelly’s, Cooke’s and Manze’s have been tried with various levels of success. But without any doubt Maureen’s tops the lot! Added to that, their delivery service sends out very well packaged and chilled food, which reheats easily and replicates that ‘in shop’ taste, perfectly. I have had deliveries to West Sussex and Devon, each time 10 out of 10! Thank you Maureen’s.
Great quality pie and mash. House gravy parsley? is quite nice, the brown sauce one is extra I think. Clean establishment and very friendly staff. Looks like they make their own vinegar which is cool.
My very first pie n mash experience. The staffs were all lovely and friendly, didn’t have to wait for long time. We had 2 x 1 pie 1 mash and 2 soft drinks and it was £9.00! Not sure if they accept a card payment everyone seemed to pay in cash and I had some too so bring some cash. I’d be happily come back here!
