Such a lovely museum, very fascinating to see the history of the Isle of Man. The short film they let you watch was very interesting. I love anything to do with natural history and vikings so I just had to snap these photos. A cute little gift shop on the way out as well. I bought several mini keepsakes.
Really informative and covered such a variety about IOM. From history of "ownership ", loads of relics, birds and animals. Has a special area just for kids and goofy haha adults with quirky and fun things to do...my only quirp with kids section is they had "viking" hats with horns. Unless I missed the info explaining that vikings never wore them, I don't think they are appropriate in a place of learning. Nice gift shop with a variety of items at a variety of pricemarks. Definitely stop in for a browse.
I love the Manx Museum and am so glad it continues to delight. There have been some significant changes since I last visited in 2007 with plenty of new exhibitions and more coming. I am sad some of my childhood favourites have gone but I guess everything changes and moves on.
I visited here with my 6 and 7 year old on our first trip to the Isle of Man. It was really excellent and my boys really enjoyed playing at all of the interactive areas, of which there were several. Lots of animals to learn about with videos too. There was a fun worksheet for kids to fill in on their way round whilst visiting, to help them learn and discover. The shop has great items in it too and we bought some souvenirs. A worthwhile visit if you can fit it in.
A professional museum for such a small island, the entrance is free. Great to learn some more about Manx tradition.
What a surprisingly fantastic museum. The exhibits were thoughtfully and expertly presented. I also saw a movie in the charming and professional museum cinema - Holiday 2 - narrated extracts of tourism movies from 1920 - 1973 on the Isle of Man. It was a wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon. Will be even better when the new exhibition area is open and the cafe is open again.
A bit old fashioned but interesting nonetheless. Very closed in and dark in places, not for the claustrophobic, needs to be a bit more open plan and organised. Feels very chaotic. The TT section was closed when we were there. Liked it though, nice museum. Free to enter but they ask for a donation which is voluntary.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very good museum at the top of a steep hill. Can spend a few hours in here without a problem. Goes through the history of people on the island from cave man to present day. Very impressive displays like the large deer / elk.
Larger than expected. Free of charge. Interesting and especially good for rainy days. Good variety of gifts in the shop and prices are reasonable. Good family day out.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Interesting layout at Manx museum, nicely weaving you through the art exhibition, artifacts and Manx history - mostly centred around a sad reflection where the manx people were used as slave labour, mining ores of copper and tin for rich English mine owners to be exported the moment it hit daylight but we all know that story. A nod to the fisheries industry, Vikings, horse drawn tram and the usual museum parifnalia. Including a look at the history of the notoriously dangerous TT that islanders either love or hate - which am sure the TT tourists would enjoy. A very fair effort for a small island... Nice coffee and gift shop, lovely buildings, pleasant staff. Wheelchair accessible, clean toilets, baby changing facilities parking. I'd like to see it brought up to date in terms of more interactive programming and running features celebrating Manx contributions to the sphere of science and technology. Worth a visit.
