What a beautiful place to visit. We visited for the first time today, on a lovely dog friendly day. So much fascinating history. The gardens are absolutely stunning. Such a pleasure to wander around, amongst the meadows of wildflowers. The two staff members in the visitor centre were so so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for families. So much of interest to children, a lovely cafe and excellent facilities. So happy to have discovered this historical gem
This is a wonderful free place to visit, a fabulous resource right in the heart of an urban estate A huge green space full of history I really love itVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
We visited on reopening day for a Tudor queen's event. There's a renovated manor house & lots of ruin remains of other buildings. There's good parking & a visitors centre with a small cafe selling drinks and snacks. Special events happen on Sundays. Midweek is for school groups only except for school holidays when craft days can be booked. Our 6 year old loved meeting the Queens and dressing up.
Excellent place to come. You can feel the history.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Just went somewhere to eat our Subway & thought let's go for a look around it's free & it's a nice day Absolutely brilliant place
Myself and my mum went there 18/6/23 on sunday yes fathers day as part of her richard the 3rd group bus trip! .... I found it to be an absolute gem of a place.... lovely beautiful gardens wonderful old ruins of the original house....n nice to go inside the turret house. May i add the turret house you can only go up as far as the second floor.....the 3rd floor is outta bounds due to unsafe conditions etc. Plus u can also organise a guided tour n learn the history of the place. Also at a viewpoint there you can see spectacular views of sheffield. Plus nextdoor is a very nice pub for a drink or two!
Absolutely brilliant! It's just a nice way to spend a couple of hours learning about where we live, on certain days there's kids activities, dressing up in the lodge, you can get a guided tour, lovely flowers depending on season, lovely staff and a few nice spots for a picnic, you can walk further down to the little farm and a lovely cafe or walk onto Norfolk Park and into town, we really enjoyed our afternoon.
A very informative museum/castle ruins with a huge impact on history! Mary Queen of Scots on house arrest there fir years and Cardinal Wolsey hid there too! The staff/volunteers were great, very friendly and dressed up in character. Amazing value for money too!
I visited when it was free entry during February Half Term. What's left of the original Manor House is ruins, but the turret house, originally a hunting lodge within a huge deer park, remains intact. There is a rich history here - Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned here for fourteen years. Information boards tell her story. More could be done to bring her story alive - I intend to visit again when Tudor themed events are on.
