There are numerous sign boards around the park that direct hikers to a variety of foot trails..
Mam Tor is a fantastic short hike that offers breathtaking views and stunning scenery. The trail is well-maintained and relatively easy, making it accessible for hikers of all levels. The ascent to the top of the hill is definitely worth the effort, as you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape that are simply awe-inspiring. The summit also offers a great vantage point to watch the sunset, making it a popular spot for photographers and nature lovers alike. Overall, if you're looking for a quick and rewarding hike in the Peak District, Mam Tor should definitely be on your list.
First class views and not that difficult to access. There are car parks all the way up to the base of the summit but don't park on the side of the roads even if your over the double yellow lines... You will get a ticket. Two paths up, one with large flag stones or the longer, less steep route that goes around the rear of the summit. Either way its a slightly tricky 1.5 hour walk at a steady pace. Beware.... Approaching the summit from either direct there is a massive sudden drop towards Castleton. Stay on the path.
Beautiful views, steep quick climb to the summit from the dark peak car park. Another popular location. The ridge walk was stunning. Dogs need to be on leads.
Had a lovely walk from Castleton to Mam Tor, epic views with stunning scenery, rain from yesterday had made some of the paths wet and slippy but Mam Tor had big stone steps which made it easy to get to the top. I do suggest sticking to the off road paths as the drivers/tourists around here drive at stupidly high speeds and felt unsafe at times walking at the side of the road. Lots of carpark tho around Mam Tor which we found later on, so we didn't really need to park so far away.
Had a really nice time- hiked the Circular route from the Carpark. Excellent views, easy walk for any fitness/ age. I will say, there aren't any bathroom facilities at the carpark so you will need to go before leaving. The route is extremely popular too, which isn't a bad thing but it's definitely not a walk if you enjoy solitude. Finally, the trail was boggy on the return from Mam Tor to the carpark again, I took the circular route so be prepared to get your shoes muddy. Overall though, lovely day out. Would go again if I was in the Peaks.
If you love walking then this is the place for you. Spectacular views and suitable for all ages. Plenty of parking around but no toilet facilities so be prepared! There a few caverns located close by which we didn’t get to see due to timescales but there is always next time. Well worth a visit, you will not be disappointed.
Iconic hill with breathtaking views in all directions from the summit, one way overlooking Castleton and the other Edale. There is parking close by but if you have time I'd recommend the walk up the old road, which was closed in the late 1970s following damage caused by landslides. It's a fascinating spectacle and really adds to the drama of the location. This also passes the remains of the Odin Mine with its large crushing wheel which is worth seeing for a bit of history. Some of the ground is quite boggy so take a good pair of boots. One of the highlights of the dark peak and a must see if you're in the area.
Stunning views and relatively easy climb! Would definitely reccomend to do if you get the chance. On the day we climbed Mam Tor and did a circular walk which went up along the ridge to other trig points and then down through Hope and Castleton villages. Beautiful.
Easy trails with wonderful scenic views at least when it's not blizzardy!. Worth a drive up to walk the routes around Castleton, especially when it's snowing.
