One of the very few Makro stores where the goods in staff were on the ball everyday! Off-load time's were exceptional. A big Thank You to Andy and Jamie you both had a very positive attitude. Shame the same can't be said about the management. I believe the store has now closed to become a Booker DC.
Don’t bother signing up. Reception lady didn’t allow us to look around to see if it would be suitable for us so we had to sign up. Once signed up we were sternly told the rules and given a print out of the T&C’s which didn’t leave a good impression on us. Nether did the prices as they are only marginally cheaper then a regular supermarket and vastly more expensive then far superior Costco. Another thing- the store is VERY drab, no atmosphere whatsoever, no music , and the outside signs, cladding and car park completely run down. The whole store is in desperate need of a deep clean and a refurb it felt depressing visiting. Can’t understand how management can let a store get like this, mark my words they’ll be shutting down soon…. Go to Costco instead!
Been shopping here for years slowly getting worse place needs revamp Manager a disgrace should be sacked if they worked for me I would of sacked, staff not much better. Every time I go we get told to scan ourselves get to checkout sorry we need to scan the whole trolley again they do this every time so this time we said forget it but to give us a refund they had to scan everything which we found out we over scanned and they owe us but we just want a refund now you know why the place is empty. Could say more about them but can't be bothered will have to go to Costco, I'm sure I'm not the only one.
My partner who is over 65 went to Makro today to purchase a 50Ltr Keg of San Miguel. They have signs up at the kegs saying to get staff to help lift on to the trolley but they will not put help lift off of trolley into her vehicle. Always used to do it. Instead they stand there holding the trolley watching a little 4ft 9 lady struggle with the barrel. They say this is health & safety for their staff and in case staff damage vehicle. But they are OK to lift inside the building but not into vehicle?? If we gave permission to load into vehicle or signed a disclaimer surely this would be OK?? Totally inhumane and another example of H&S gone mad!!!
today i went had my card scanned and let in to then be stopped by another man working there who called his manager. i was refused entry with my additional needs 5 year old he wore a face mask and a sunflower lanyard. no other option to leave him with anyone. explained im self employed and have no friends or family to watch him as im an army wife and husband is always busy and i have to take on juggling children and working from home. i explained im self employed and need the items to work to pay for his private treatments not funded on NHS. they didnt care and when i said they were discriminating against us the manager was rude and said he wasnt. i left very upset. ive shielded for months ive lost a lot due to covid im trying to rebuild but now this has set me back and im going to switch costco!! children are allowed in supermarkets/school/restaurants but not here!!! i won't bother again. such rude staff!!!!!!! i also looked on the booker and makro and found nothing about this policy. only their door signs which arent legally inforceable. government guidelines is hand face space. and coverings dont apply to under 11s or if you have an exemption which my son and I do but still wear them for everyones safety!!!! avoid this place at all cost they dont care about self employed, families or additional needs!!!!
Rudest staff The manager called Pete is absolutely digscuting behaviour Wanted me to leave my kids in the car in this 28 weather !! Absolutely horrible receptionist Refused my kids in and I will take this further And they were letting people in !!! 4 in a group ! But because I had kids I was refused entry !!!
Good variety of wholesale produce as usual. A layout redesign works well too. The new ID checking is a PITA tho as it means I can't pop in on the wife's behalf anymore as we have different surnames. If it's to crack down on card sharing I get that, but you'd think they'd want the "extra" business these days....
Never come here ever again, as we walked into the shop, the reception lady told us to be quiet even though the manager said we can go in as a family. Don’t know why she was being so rude to us.
Rude, disinterested staff who simply live on a power trip of enforcing all sorts of strange rules impossible to follow. The savings are no longer competitive in comparison to your average supermarket. The warehouse is untidy, the staff scruffy and disinterested... unless you need to buy big bulk... go elsewhere.
The rudest manager of any place I have ever been. The manager of Makro Fareham, Susan chased me down and told me I couldn't buy 3 cases of 6 Domestos Kitchen spray. She had a whole pallet full of the stuff but apparently 18 bottles of 750ml spray was excessive buying. When I asked where the signage was for such limit, Susan told me that she didn't need to put up a sign because it was her store and it was up to her to decide how much of a particular product was allowed to be purchased. When I pointed out that they were a wholesaler there to supply businesses, she told me it didn't matter and that she had never seen me in HER shop before. Bear in mind, we had been visiting Makro Fareham as a wholesale business buyer for over 18 years and held a Makro gold card for 10 of those years! The next time I went in there, I needed some antibacterial wipes of which they had a massive shelf full of. I looked very hard for a sign stating any limit; there was none. I had a client who looked after the Private Jet lounge at a certain airport and he wanted 30 packs of these wipes. I picked up 30 packs from the Makro shelf and left plenty for other people. Excited I was now able to fulfill my client's order, I headed to the other end of the warehouse pursued by a man hiding behind racks, watching me. I picked up a few more things before being confronted by Susan's unwitting change agent "you can't buy those wipes you are only allowed 2 packs" he sneered. When I showed my displeasure at this unprofessional confrontation of a long time, paying business customer, not a Saturday loaf or bread and pint of milk customer he told me he was only doing what the manager had instructed him to do. I left my trolley and walked out in anger. I have never shopped there since. The ironic thing is, they were selling Ineos hand gel 250ml bottles for £2.50 + VAT. The limit on these was apparently 12 bottles. When I rang Ineos Hygenics direct, my sales rep who was also Booker's sales rep told me that Booker's corporate buyers were constantly calling him upset that the sell through rate of Ineos 250ml was poor and complaining re the marketing. When I revealed to my Ineos rep, the manager of Makro Fareham was limiting the sale of Ineos 250ml to 2 cases per customer he almost fell off his chair. Needless to say, he was only too pleased to take my order for 2 whole pallets 2600+ bottles at a B2B price of £1+VAT per bottle. The worst thing about all this is that Booker HQ or Tesco have no idea this happened. Oh well there is always Bestway wholesale just around the corner. They have always been pleased to sell anything in bulk without any question. Mind you, they are a properly run cash and carry who are strictly business only and don't let Mr and Mrs Saturday shopper in to buy just a loaf of bread, 12 eggs and a bottle of milk!
