Excellent Fish n Chips, and a vegetarian version to match it! The place is nice and cosy and the service is warm and efficient. Is located right off the beach and if you can the table by the window the view is beautiful, even on a rainy day. The toilets are clean and is walking distance from the car park. Be back to sample the rest of the menu!
Deservedly holds the title of the best fish and chips on the country. For good reason. They really delivered on personality and, most importantly, on the food itself. Wonderful.
A bit over priced even more expensive than in London ? And you are in Hastings ...mah! But the quality is good and they were kind to let me have lunch at 1515 when kitchen was about to close 1530 but other two tables were still eating ... 4.10 a local lager and 13.50 a haddock fish and chips. Great view and lovely outside tables for warmer days ...
Wow absolutely amazing. I'm a northerner and love my fish and chips but this place is by far the best I've ever had. The chips were nice and crisp and the fish was divine.
Fish and chips is meant to be fun. The lady working there seemed kind of outraged or embarrassed for me that I didn't have a reservation. Was told to wait 20 mins for takeout ended up being 40. The chips are very delicious but I found them too crispy to be paired with the fish. Even the fluffiest ones felt oily too. In addition to that, the batter on the fish was insubstantial and fairly flavourless. I still very much enjoyed the box of fish and would give 4 stars if not for the unfriendly welcoming. I'm just nitpicking on the quality of the box as I had high expectations.
A*** what can I say, other than it was a wonderful lunch The service was impeccable, friendly and the lady who served us recommended to me the best Plaice I have ever had see image Both affordable and delicious. Highly recommend
I'm not a fish and chips person, I find that the fish is either bland, the bater is too oily or heavy and sometimes even the chips aren't good. Maggie's Cod and chips was just perfect, the fish had a lot of flavour and perfectly cooked, the atmosphere in the restaurant was cosy and I highly recommend a little stop there if you're looking for that cosy, feels familiar spot with great food. Has been added to my favourites and I'll be sure to stop bye again next time I swing by Hastings.
Visited Maggies due to TripAdvisor ratings. Did not book a table as I have yet to visit a chippy that required booking, which proved to be my first mistake as my wife was 8 month pregnant, hungry and walking the distance to look for another good chip shop is out of the question. They insisted that the place is fully booked while i promised that we will be eating and leaving before their guests arrive, as my wife pregnancy would be too much for us to walk around, but in true south England hospitality they refused and showed no consideration for our situation. Thus we settled for a take away, a large haddock, large Cod, gherkin, mushy peas and curry sauce. It took too long for our food to be ready, then we paid 34£ for the lot! Which is more than what you would pay at Central London Chippy for the same order. But the take away menu promised a 10-12 Oz fish, so the payment should have been justified by the size of the fish expected. After walking some distance until we found a place we can sit and eat, my haddock turned out to be almost half the size their takeaway menu promised. Approximately the size of a medium fish you get in London, not even a large one! Half of what you would get in near by towns like Eastbourne or Brighton. And the chips were countable, so far i was still looking forward to try it as the reviews promised a great fish, and we were so close to the sea so it cannot get any worse. But it definitely did, my wife's Cod was nothing but a fish skin, and small piece of fish still hanging to the skin all wrapped in batter. They have served us what qualified for me to walk back and throw the whole order to their face, perhaps they didn't like me, but am sure was polite as could be, or perhaps they thought am using my wife's pregnancy as an alibi to grab a table and they did not like it, whatever the reason is i am sure it would not make them serve me a tiny piece of Cod where most of the fish gone missing and just skin instead. But my wife refused i go back and insisted we get by and just eat something else when we get back home, we were too tired and hungry by then and had to walk some distance in order to find a bench to sit and eat. The only good thing was that the fishes were fresh, which what you would expect from any chippy on a beach town anyway. Other than that, the batter was too thin, there was not much chips and they were crusty outside the way a steak house would do them and not a chip shop, if i wanted crusty chips i could have went to a steak place. The curry sauce was not bad, but the mushy peas were over boiled and almost lost all taste to them. We ended buying a Pizza on our way home, and and I ended up with a long lecture from my wife to never go with TripAdvisor reviews ever again.
We got to Maggie's at the boat around 2pm and they'd already sold out of the specials and chowder so definitely go early lunchtime. I had the flat fish with chips and it was actually nice without all the batter, perfectly cooked and flaky. The salad was a nice addition. The chips were a bit plain but a good portion and the sauce wasn't too sour.
+Fantastic fresh fish and perfect golden crispy chips. A Proper mug of tea! Staff very friendly and helpful. Remember to book in advance.
