Health Service Patients
To register for HS dental care, please provide:
your Medical Card and
photographic proof of identity eg. Passport, Driver’s Licence A £10 administration deposit is required to secure your first appointment which (refundable on completion of treatment).
Treatments available under the Health Service include:
• an examination and assessment
• radiographs (x-rays)
• non-surgical treatment like scaling, polishing, periodontal (gum) treatments, marginal fillings and oral hygiene instruction
• surgical treatments like wisdom and other tooth removal
• fillings
• root canal fillings
• other treatments such as bridges, crowns, and dentures
• referral to a dental hospital for specialist treatment
Treatments not available under the Health Service include certain cosmetic work which can be carried out privately.
Health Service Charges and Exemptions
Being a Health Service practice means that we work to a set scale of charges. If you are not entitled to free treatment or help with the cost of treatment, the charge is 80% of your dentist’s fee up to a maximum of £384. If you are claiming help with HS dental health costs, it is your responsibility to check that you are so entitled before declaring this to us, to provide documentary evidence of your current entitlement and to keep us advised at each appointment about any change affecting this entitlement
Appointments & Reminders Please arrive 10 minutes early and give 48 hours’ notice if unable to keep your appointment. (Late cancellations may incur a charge)
• We can phone you, send you a SMS/text reminder or email about your appointment.
• Please keep us informed about any changes to your personal details such as your address, contact number, financial changes affecting your entitlement to free HS or subsidised dental care.
Dental Check-Up
Please bring an up-to-date list of your current medication to your appointment.
Your first dental appointment will be an extensive examination involving:
• Discussion of your dental concerns
• Your dental history being taken
• A thorough examination of your teeth and gums for signs of any dental disease
• An oral cancer screening - a full exam of the soft and hard tissues of the mouth for signs of any abnormalities
• Radiographs (X-rays) may need to be taken to help complete diagnosis. Tell your dentist if you are or suspect you are pregnant as radiographs and certain treatments should be avoided during pregnancy
• Discussion with your dentist on the findings, your treatment options and any relevant risks and associated costs
• You will be advised on the number of appointments required. Reception will give you a written Treatment Plan and Estimate of Expected Treatment Costs

Pain Relief Your dentist will ask you whether you would like local anaesthetic to help pain relief. In the event of a difficult or surgical extraction your dentist may suggest a referral e.g. to a specialist and will discuss whether local anaesthetic will be sufficient or if sedation will be required.
We take time and patience with anxious patients, but very anxious children or adults can be referred to the local community dental department.
Confidentiality
We take great care to ensure that our patient records are maintained in strict confidence. We have Confidentiality, Data Protection and Data Security Policies. Should you require further information, please let us know.
Repairs and replacements
Our dental treatment is provided to a very high standard but occasionally treatment may need to be replaced or repairs may need to be undertaken. Our practice policy is normally to provide repairs or replacements free of charge if the treatment fails within one year. Full or partial refunds may also be given. Please contact us immediately if you experience difficulty with any treatment that we have provided.
Dental Emergencies
If you have a dental emergency:
During our Opening Hours - please contact the practice for advice and we will make arrangements for you to be seen as quickly as possible.
Outside our Opening Hours - please telephone the practice for our emergency service arrangements.
Evenings, weekends and public holidays we participate in the Local Area Emergency Dental Clinic held in Craigavon Area Hospital every evening from 7pm - 9pm with additional sessions each Saturday and Sunday morning (and during selected holiday periods) from 10am - 12noon.
This service is for genuine emergencies only, such as trauma, swelling, bleeding, severe pain. If you normally pay for your dental treatment there is a charge at this Clinic.
