Be aware of hidden charges!

I needed a PAT test on the appliances in my rental flat. So phoning around and the boss of this place quoted me 1 hour (or less) for testing 6-7 appliances in my flat. Never mentioned anything about travelling time, apprentice or mileage. My tenants confirmed the job was done within 1 hour. Then I got a bill for 2 hours labour + 2 hours apprentice + mileage!

I queried this bill to the boss, he was nice enough to admit they shouldn't charge the apprentice and the 2 hours 'probably' included the time the engineer writing reports. He said he would check and give me a credit note. 3 months later I still haven't received anything.

Acting on good faith, I phoned again. The lady who answered the phone didn't want to put me through to the boss and she said she did the invoice. Hence I queried with her again. She said she shouldn't have charged the apprentice. But the 2 hours 'probably' include travelling time (2 different answers!!!). But mileage charge is standard 4 miles.

I then said I accept the mileage at 90p per mile! But I do not accept 2 hours of labour when the boss never mentioned that travelling time should be charged to client. I wasn't rude or anything like that, but I was FIRM. Then she took offense and hung up on me!

So now I'm still waiting for a credit note!
