I'm currently looking for bike repairs and this old chestnut popped up. I didn't actually meet him but a family member felt ripped off and I would agree. With regards Blake's post, well what can I say! So you're recommending Muddy Fox over Giant because of their pre 1995 spec? You've just shot yourself right in the foot there!
Going into Low Fell Cycles was the most unpleasant shop experience I've had for a very long time. The owner was rude, argumentative & sarcastic and I had to walk out after less than 5 minutes. Am always keen to support local business's and had been meaning to try this shop for years, so took a bike in to get repaired through the 'fix your bike' scheme and am genuinely shocked by receiving such a negative & rude attitude...in a cycle shop??...which have always been friendly welcoming places in my many years as a cyclist. I wont be going back, ever & have subsequently seen many other bad online reviews.
I have been buying biked from Keith for over 20 years and always had great service. Needed to buy a new bike last weekend and got a superb deal. Most importantly I got what was best for me and what cycling I intended to do. It wasn't the most expensive bike but is is the most effective and that is why I keep going back - they look after the customer and it is not about selling any bike. If you want honest advice and good back up service then try this place.
Can’t rate this little shop enough! Great service, best price and yes I did shop about, everywhere! He was great with my children and even held the Bike for us until my boys Birthday! Can’t recommend enough! Thanks for making my little boys birthday very special.
The most rude, bone Idle bloke going. Charged me £25 for a 2 minute paperwork exercise through sheer bitterness I didn't buy the bike from him but another place endorsed by the same partner. Then wonders why I didn't want him to carry out the work, aswell as criticising my decision to get a lease bike which I would do time and time again over buying from him. Told me an electric bike cost more to check then only checked the brakes, chain and cassette, ordinary bike components. Didn't even turn the bike on so how he knew the electrics were fine is beyond me. Conned £25 out of an nhs worker, not that I feel I'm owed anything for that but shows the measure of the man. Couldve told me on either of the 2 times I rang that it wouldn't get done straight away or would cost £25 to do so. Kept telling me to stand in other parts of the empty shop as there was no space then told me to prop my bike up infront of his office door, blocking it, the irony. If you have a lease bike through cyclescheme then I advise you try other places as he charges fabricated prices for a glorified dentist sticker. Just avoid
I look in here from time to time to see if it’s under new management yet. I stopped shopping at Low Fell cycles a few years ago as Keith, the owner seemed forever bitter and likes to share that with the customers whom he considers an inconvenience to his day. Each time I went there with the intention of buying something he would give me more than one reason that my decision was wrong. Because I really am adamant about supporting local business, I persevered. Time and time again, I would do all my research elsewhere before calling in and TELLING him what I wanted and not getting into discussion or listen to his stories and reasons why I was wrong - again. I bought and had installed some clipless pedals on his advice even though I didn’t fancy them. Price included pedals, shoes and installation - in the region of £200 at the time. When I told him that I wasn’t over-keen on the idea of clipless, I allowed him to convince me that I was wrong. 6 months of struggling not his fault I had an accident, in part due to the clipless pedals. This finally convinced me that I was indeed right and returned to have them removed. I wouldn’t dream of asking for a refund at this stage it wasn’t his fault I couldn’t ride on them and asked him to remove them and replace with some expensive, spiky platforms. When I told him about my 6 months of bad experience he just laughed and said ‘my little girl can use them’ Thanks mate, I’m just out of hospital... A few more visits over the next few years, the place got emptier, and dustier. Keith was still being rude to customers on the phone and in person. I started buying my stuff online and servicing my own bikes. Kids came along and I have to get them new bikes every year as they grow! I now use private ads to find them myself and I’ve gotten good at servicing them too. Precisely the reasons that Keith is bitter - you see what’s happening here? I understand why he’s bitter. Times are hard for independent shops when multi-nationals and the web are killing your business daily and this has been the case for AGES. As a result of this, the credit lines with suppliers have obviously dried up as he can no longer afford to stock a range of bikes and accessories to make his store attractive. This is a downward spiral unless you do something about it. And that something HAS to involve CUSTOMERS COMING THROUGH YOUR DOOR AND BEING GIVEN OUTSTANDING SERVICE. As without customers a shop will not survive. If Keith can’t do it, hire a store manager that can. Customers in Low Fell have money, there are thousands of kids within spitting distance of your shop that need regular new bikes and they will grow into loyal customers. Do them a favour, hire a store manager who can do this and watch the profits rise. His little girl is probably approaching her 30’s by now...
Terrible place. Took my bike in several times and I know he does not like it as he makes it clear. It went in with a slow puncher and came out with a fast puncher and deflated in 5mins of leaving the shop. Took it back and left it for 5days and was told its fine nothing wrong with it and to keep the valve towards the ground why do that if nothing is wrong with it? Maybe because the tire is full of OKO temporary tire sealant so seems to have temporary sealed itself. Took it from shop and got it little down road and it deflated again. Obviously with the centrifugal forces of the wheel means the OKO is no longer plugging the hole around the valve but the sealant is now around the edge of the tire so it deflated again. Took it back to shop again and he has washed his hands of it. My bike has came out WORSE that when it went in. He was blaming the valve and sold me a new valve for £1 to fix the fault that he had put on the bike. He was saying I have everything all on a TV show and this is some joke. I told him I don't think this is a joke as I don't like walking 2 hours a day to work. Everything was my fault when actually it was his fault he fitted a faulty tube. This is now in the hands of my card company.
{{{DO NOT GO }}} If you want to be spoken to like a child & then talk to someone who calls him self a cycle mechanic who knows absolutely NOTHING, if you want a horrendously bad service with no customer service skills, with an all you can eat attitude with the most unhelpful & arrogant scruffy looking man… this is the dirty little dingy little shop to visit. The owner/so called mechanic wanted £15 to put two tyres on, that’s just shocking by any means. I would push my bike past this place in the rain with two flat tyres any day.
Terrible... Prices are high and the owner isn't helpful and is completely useless. Had 3 bad experiences here. The owner was going to charge £20 to install a new back tyre which i had already bought but was unable to fit it and tried to ride my cycle without pemission. DO NOT to this bike shop and go to places like Halfords instead.
Great guy fixed puncture on electric bike took on sat ready for the Wednesday really helpfull bloke
