A harbour was first established here in the 16th century and it became a seaside destination in the 18th century. It is a place where boats are, and always have been, important. Today it has a beautiful new river promenade and a beach that is consistently rated as clean and safe. It also has the iconic Look & Sea Visitor Centre, situated on the river next to the public slipway, its tall viewing tower peering far out to sea, and its riverside restaurant serving fresh local seafood.
