Story

Based in the historic buildings of the former Kew Bridge Waterworks, the London Museum of Water & Steam tells the story of London's water supply and the amazing pumping engines that helped to make London the great city it is today.

We have the world's largest collection of stationary steam pumping engines, many of which you can see working at weekends.

Absolute gem! We loved our visit here! The day we visited was a 'steam up' day so all the incredible engines and pumps were working, including a steam melody maker! Little steam train running for the kiddies too. All the volunteer staff very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. Great displays educating about water supply, disease, greedy utility owners ... all very thought provoking
The best museum in London so far for small children and their parents ; every room has some point of interest or an interactive toy for kids and all engines are working !!! Saw a ton of engineers, very knowledgeable and passionate about their jobs who wanted to talk about the machine they are maintaining! My kiddo was extremely excited about model trains with steam engines and an actual steam train !nThey also have a coffee shop with a super cute play train section. Seriously the only museum we had visited here that was enjoyable and not stressful ! And very very educational
We went yesterday 30/12 as it was a Steam up day. How lucky we were to see the engines working and all the lovely staff answering all the questions we had!nIt is an amazing museum with a lot to see and do. Children were really impressed about the robots that clean the pipes and fix them!nThanks for such an enriching day!
Very interesting museum with plenty to walk around and see, some big old steam engines to see, interactive exhibits showing you how they work, history of the water supply in the local area and wider London. Definitely enough to keep you occupied for a few hours
Check to visit during their Steaming Days if you can. But we had funny on a random weekday. Lots of interactive pumps and a board game, a garden with re-purposed items and an outside area. The gift shop is quite nice and there’s a cafe called the Pump & Grind. They have extra activities for school holidays, too. Clean restrooms. Friendly staff. We didn’t reserve ahead of time. It takes around an hour to tour it all.
