Our recent private escorted tour to Stonehenge and Windsor Castle with London Country Tours can only be described as amazing.. The entire day was customized and adjusted to our needs, everything from making reservations for lunch to drop off and pickup at each venue entry point.. The service was second to none. I would highly recommend London Country Tours for day trips out of London.
We had a wonderful time with Steve on our tour of Leeds Castle, Cliffs of Dover and Cantebury Cathedral. He picked us up in front of our flat and dropped us back off after a long day. Steve went above and beyond taking us to both the lower and upper portions of the cliffs. I highly recommend this tour! Our kids are 12, 14, and 16 years old and it was the perfect day! We wish we had toured Dover castle over Leeds, but that was our fault by not researching enough ahead of time.
Steve was a wonderful guide during our tour to the Cotswolds! We were able to see quite a few villages, do a little shopping and even fit in a quick trip to Oxford at the end of the day! Booking a private tour is definitely the way to go for convenience & seeing the most in a limited amount of time. Highly recommend!
What a disappointment - this turned out to be a very expensive driving service rather than an actual tour. I contacted David, upon Rick Steves' recommendation, on behalf of my parents, who had 1 day in London. They have limited mobility and therefore could not conduct a more traditional walking tour, which is why I reached out to David. I made this very clear to David when I contacted him via email and he assured me that they would get a great "tour" of London regardless of their mobility issues. The driver was nice and the car was clean, but the driver gave no history of London. My mom asked him about the history of the Cutty Sark and he didn't even know what it was. Then I contacted David personally, before posting a public post, to give my feedback, and he argued with me about each of my feedback points and then said, "I knew this would be a very big mistake". Terrible customer service - I wish David had turned down the job instead of taking their money, knowing his driver couldn't give them a tour as David had promised. Or at least I wish he had responded professionally and courteously to my feedback. Reading other reviews on Google and Tripadvisor, I see similar experiences - the amount of history and information given seems to vary by driver. I expect to have a pretty sharp retort from David on this review, given his defensive reply to my email and his response to other negative reviews. I don't think I've ever given a review like this before, but I just want to give people fair warning.
Horrible customer service. We were charged $1000 for a private driving tour around Dover for 2 adults, 2 kids and an infant as a cruise excursion for 6 hours through Viator/Tripadvisor. Our cruise ship canceled our port of call to Dover and while other tour companies worked with Tripadvisor or Viator to refund their customers, David from London Country Tours refused to refund us for a tour he was not going to provide to us stating that he would lose a day's work when other local tour operators in Dover approved refunds to for the same situation. Other companies in Dover have fully refunded passengers on this itinerary through TripAdvisor. Even the London Country Tours website only mentions a $100 deposit required for tours under 8 persons with the remainder to be paid to the guide after the tour. However, in our case, our guide David Stubbs is not willing to even do a partial refund minus the full deposit so he can pocket the whole amount for himself. This is beyond shameful for a local tour operator. I would caution anyone deciding to book a cruise excursion with London Country Tours as they will keep all your money even if the ship decides to cancel the port of call last minute when that is not the norm in the tourism industry. We have taken multiple private shore excursions through Viator that have been fair and equitable in such situations and we have been glad to support them. Disappointed start to our family trip to the UK.
If you are looking for customer service, this is not it!!!! One of the greedy guides named David, wouldn't refund us even though Viator was willing to. Something about his time and he booked a hotel, which was all lies. No hotel was booked, we have little kids and booked a private tour and even went as far to say to make the tour lite, and due to the God factor of unforeseen circumstances out of our control, we couldn't attend. All of our other tour guides were more than understanding and refunded us, but my man with self perceived 'excellent service' felt it was our problem, what a tacky and ghetto move. You sir are in the wrong business as this is a CUSTOMER service industry, not for greedy, lying individuals looking solely to line their pockets!!! 20Jul - this dude is a trip, responding to his reply. He incurred no additional costs, lied about booking a hotel reservation for a day trip - made no sense, his own company policy is 100 pound cancellation fee which we were willing to pay, his colleagues from the same company refunded others who had booked trips with them for the same issue we had, but only he had an issue and wanted to line his pockets selfishly. Shameful joke to the industry!
fantastic tour to cotswolds and stratford upon avon. day started out a bit rough on our end with us mixing up the time but our guide steve rolled with it and didn’t miss a beat in showing us a great time. loved the extras and knowledge he incorporated into making our day so lovely & fun! he is fantastic at what he does.
Our driver was lovely and we have no complaints about his service but when we booked this we were expecting a "private guided tour", not just a driver to take us to Stonehenge and Bath. We didn't even know until we asked that we needed to purchase our own entry tickets. We made the most of our day but beware that the website is very misleading about what the actual experience is.
We had a wonderful day trip from London. David was our guide, he was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the area as we drove along making for an entertaining and informative ride. David provided us with suggestions on how to best get into the sites, including ticket purchases and order in which to see things to avoid tour bus crowds. The vehicle is comfortable and WiFi is available. He gave us historical information about both of the sites we visited and gave a great dining recommendation. Chatting with David along the drive was a pleasure and made the time pass very quickly on what could have been a long ride. Thank you David for a terrific day out, I would definitely use David again for a tour when I’m back in town. I would certainly recommend him to anyone looking for a guide!
