LODDON MILL ARTS organise arts events in East Anglia, from the home of the proprietors Katherine & Andy Walter. They live in the fabulous and historic setting of the mill complex in Loddon, on the Southern Broads in Norfolk and own part of the complex of buildings.
The Mill complex originally contained a watermill, engine rooms, miller’s house and 9 acres of water meadows and wood. They own the miller’s house, engine rooms, water meadows and wood. Please note – the watermill building is independently & privately owned.
Events: Our events ‘at home’ are held in a Victorian built (Grade II listed) building, hidden behind the watermill which used to house the steam engines and grain processing barns. Here the grain was stored and processed and although the steam engines which drove the complex of machinery have long since disappeared, we retain the truncated chimney and a large space. This space called ‘The Mill Rooms’ is ordinarily our house, but for a few hours every month transforms into an arts venue, with bar/reception area and backstage areas.
The ‘Mill Rooms’ have beautiful views across the water meadows to the rear and across the River Chet valley. We can seat up to 130 people and the hall offers excellent acoustics and visability. We also have a licensed bar, run with the co-operation and sponsorship of Adnams. All in all, its superb!
Who Are We? Loddon Mill Arts was set up in 2008 by ‘award winning’ producer Andrew Walter and his wife Katherine Howard who worked as PR manager for Sony and EMI records for 20 years before running her own PR company. She is also one of the leading Equestrian Coaches inEast Anglia, a BHS Instructor and specialist ‘Ride-With You- Mind’ Instructor and Biomechanics Coach. www.katherinewalter.co.uk What events have you previously done? Loddon Mill Arts is a new concern for arts inEast Anglia and the brief has been to bring award -winning, international arts to this area. It was launched with a concert by the internationally renowned Henschel Quartet in 2009, attended by Richard Bacon MP. Other events by Loddon Mill Arts include classical concerts from The Turner Ensemble (made from players of the Royal Opera House Orchestra and others) and the young, dynamic Italian string trio Trio Broz. Loddon Mill Arts successfully launched into the world of ‘award winning’, celebrity comedy with James Redmond, Dan Antopolski, Tom Craine, Paul Foot, Mitch Benn and many other international acts. Tina May and Nikki Iles came to launch a wonderful evening of jazz and we have had wonderful performances from Paddy Milner and Marcus Bonfanti from Ronnie Scott’s famous jazz club in London. Also the Angell Trio, Craig Murray, The magic circle magician Ian Keable and many other stars…
Community & Local Support: We are very greatful for patronage and support from Loddon Parish Council, South Norfolk District Council, Norfolk County Council and from Richard Bacon, South Norfolk MP. We have had lots of press and publicity notably BBC Radio Norfolk, The East Daily Press and in the national magazine ‘Classical Music’ and The Guardian. We have also had terrific support from our sponsors; estate agents Musker McIntyre, Adnams Of Southwold and St. Peter’s Brewery, without whose support this would not be possible. And there are many, many friends (locally and further afield) who have given enormous amounts of time and considerable skill to assist with planning, organising and staffing the events. Particular thanks also to Peter Dean Creative for his assistance in marketing and creative design.

A final thought by organiser Andy Walter: ‘We’re proud to have received such huge support from the community of Loddon & Chedgrave, the Loddon parish council, South Norfolk District Council, Norfolk County Council and from our MP Richard Bacon.
Our events are legally operated under a temporary events license, issued by South Norfolk District Council. We have received the council and the police’s full support and co-operation in bringing first class comedians, musicians and artists to this part of Norfolk under the temporary events license scheme and the councils have welcomed our initiative in setting up these evenings and in continuing to develop them.
We set up events on a ‘community support and benefit’ basis to compliment the wishes of the locals and have found that we are increasingly attracting visitors from outside this area during our events. This results in increased trade to local businesses and the sponsorship and partnership deals we have arranged with Loddon Mill Arts is sustaining and developing further the provision of a wonderful and affordable arts service for this community.
Our events only occupy one evening per month and we have incredible support from local businesses and people to continue doing what we are doing. If we have the time and support to do this locally, we will continue. Our evenings are uniquely popular because we bring ‘high class’ quality artists and comedians, often only seen in London and abroad, at an affordable price and showcase them locally. That surely is a great thing! We welcome your support.
