Starters and mains are sublime, but desserts need a little more attention. The service was friendly and helpful, with nothing but compliments being deserved. All things considered one of the best - if not the best - Irish restaurant I have ever been to.
Party of 3 made a last minute late lunch reservation on a Sunday. Greeted promptly and was led to upstairs dining area. It's cosy room with 5 tables. Our server gave us plenty time to look over the menu while getting us our drinks. We ordered sourdough bread to share and that butter was to die for. I had the bluefin tuna and it's as beautiful as it tastes. My wild cod was nicely done with a lot of flavor for such a lite fish. The restaurant was also thoughtful enough to cook up a non-diary dessert for me with abundance of figs and raspberries. Well done.
Lovely setting. Cocktail list was ample and we were surprised by the results...I suppose an introduction to everything that was to come after, I.e. just simply better, fresher, more considered than anywhere else. Breads for the table were a meal in themselves, served with smoked brown butter. The taste buds will not be disappointed here, cucumber soup, hollandaise, brown bread ice cream and the amazing blue cheese...extensive wine list too. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Oh wow! Such a great place to eat, the decor and ambience is perfect. We originally had a booking for 4, but unfortunately 2 of our party had covid, so couldn't make it, there was a mix up with us left sitting wait at the bar because they thought we were still waiting for them. It was a little unfortunate, but when they realised they were so amazing, they knocked off the charge for our cocktails at the bar and gave us some nibbles to keep us going. I think that's the sign of a great restaurant, being able to deal with issues so smoothly. The food was super tasty and elegant. The service was impeccable and really friendly. The crackling on my pork was a-mazing just needed a little more. Highly recommended, and we'll be back.
I think this restaurant deserves a star. We loved every dish from the bread to the desserts. The dishes were simple and effortless but with lots of technical skills involved behind it. The bread and butter were so good. If i would have to be picky, the butter was slightly oversmoked to my taste but it was still very tasty. For starter, the beef tartar and celeriac were both very tasty. Well balanced and presented especially the beef tartar. Love the potato crisps that come with the beef tartar. For mains, gnocchi and skate were both well cooked and delicious. As an ex pastry chef myself, I think the shortcrust pastry for the pumpkin tart can be improved. It was soft and not crumbly. Overall, very pleased with our dinner. I wish this restaurant is in London and I will definitely visit them regularly.
Locks is a must for foodies. The good quality & presentation was exceptional. The menu is small so you know they'll only have the freshest ingredients. The restaurant is quaint, & the decor warm & welcoming. It overlooks the Grand Canal. Be sure to order their bread side. Their menu changes, but I had a filled pasta for starters, which was exceptional, & Cod for mains. Amazing. We'll definitely return. The service was exceptional - very welcoming & our waitron was knowledgeable about the menu options. I highly recommend this gem in Dublin.
I won’t bother posting pictures of the actual food I ate here. Since the food actually looks good, it might lead you to believe that this is a half decent place. It’s FAR from that. The first picture is a representation of the food you expect to eat. The second picture is a representation of the food you’ll actually get. And you’ll have to pay for the sides! I’ve eaten in Michelin-rated gastro places before. But never before I have been served a main outside of a taster menu which wasn’t the case here which won’t even be enough for a bird. Plus the food and service was actually appalling! If you want modern Irish/ European flare , please consider Camden Kitchen, One Pico, Glas vegetarian or any other alternative !
We had an incredible meal. Attentive service, beautiful table, lovely atmosphere. The food was divine, shout-out to the sticky toffee pudding which was one of these best desserts I have ever eaten. Cannot wait to come back
Looked up where to eat in Dublin, 2022 and this jewel was listed. Was able to get a same-day dinner reservation solo traveler and was immediately seated upon arrival. Service is wonderful, attentive, but not hovering. Hands down, the BBQ lamb belly, pickled mint, shallot is what dreams are made of. Small and intimate space with a small dining room that fills quickly, but with the correct colors and lighting is welcoming. Also, ordered the bread service and Potato gnocchi with chanterelles and black garlic - delicious!
Come here for the atmosphere, great staff and high end Irish food! It’s truly an experience you won’t get in most places. I had a gorgeous crab and then a potato main dish to finish it off. You only live once, would you want your life to be one that never came here? Think about it!
