Phenomenal food and service! I couldn't recommend a visit more. The quality and presentation of the food was fantastic - the octopus was . To top it off the staff are really friendly and helpful.
We visited the Lobster Pot as we were staying overnight in Kilmore to catch an early ferry from Rosslare. While secluded, Carne is well signposted and we found the restaurant easily with ample parking onsite. Dining with a 9 and 12 year old, kids are well catered for with options of garlic bread, chicken wings and goujons. Our eldest chose scampi from the main menu and the serving was generous and well-cooked. An extra order of fries for the table were barely touched. The starters/bar snacks offered so many tempting choices we decided to order oysters, scallops and mussels, with the chowder from the starters as main dishes charged as starters. Our waitress took this slightly unusual order with aplomb and all dishes came from the kitchen perfectly timed and cooked. The oysters were enormous - I had contemplated ordering a dozen, as an oyster in a London restaurant would typically be a third of the size - 6 was more than enough even for two adults. The Mignonette could have benefitted from a bit more seasoning pepper but the oysters were so flavoursome you don't really need it anyway. Personal favourite was the scallops with black pudding and lobster bisque - beautifully caramelised scallops complemented by rich, earthy pudding. My wife's mussels and chorizo were also a great balance of flavour. Next time we're travelling through we'll make a point of returning and try out the mains - the Mornay served to other tables looked delicious.
Great little pub with only one little flaw. They don't serve lobster. Still highly recommend and worth the visit. Their seafood dishes looked fresh and tasty, ours certainly were. I must also commend them on the uptake of COVID precautions, which is at higher standard than most in local area. I had Salmon Cocktail, a salmon salad in a prawn cocktail style and I really enjoyed it. My wife had a generous portion of Crab Claws, which she enjoyed as well. It seems that all the seafood is good here, based on looking at what other tables ordered. They also make thier own soda bread. Shaped into little balls, the crust was a little on the tough side but delicious side serving with both dishes.
I don't leave harsh reviews usually but in this time I feel I have to.the last time I visited here it was fabulous but this time I will say it was actually one of the worst experiences I had for a very long time. I had a fish dish which was told it was served with carne patotoes an veg .the fish was over cooked an half an onion for veg an 3 small patotoes an when I enquired about my dish I was told that the way the dish is served .my wife had the burger which was served with just a bun/onion an few chips .iv seen better in chippers .an for the service it wasn't much better .
The 2 staff members that served us were very friendly polite and professional giving really good advice on the menu. The scallops with bacon jam was delicious and the mussels with squid were also great. The menu was a bit limited though. Desert of tiramisu was also great Parking: Ample parking
Having had not been over in 2 years I was so happy to visit and still receive the same good customer service and delish food! If anyone is thinking of making the drive just do it and pack a jacket incase its chilly as it is ireland!
Went there at lunch time for a short and quick meal. We were greater very rude telling us there not sure if they have booking or not we were then seated and asked what drinks we want not a menu given for 30 mins. It then took anther 20 for what drinks we want took anther hour for food to arrive asked for a drink that never come and was charged for it on the bill food arrived and was cold the lobster raviol was 16 euro and had 3 pieces it as cooked from frozen took anther 10 minutes for chips to arrive the were cold and very small portion I would not recommend this stop and will never go back.
Had a wonderful dinner there last night... Absolutely charming pub with a lot of history as one can witness from the photos and items displayed on the walls inside. If you love fresh seafood and exemplary service you will be happy choosing The Lobster Pot. We had grilled mussels and their oven baked cod with baked potatoes and vegetables and what a feast for our taste buds that was! It is located in a beautiful area having Carne Beach nearby and the stunning nature reserve, Our Lady's Island Lake, so if you are in that neighbourhood, this is one not to be missed!
We had a very disappointing dining experience. We arrived in as a party of 9 and were great with nothing but rudeness from the host ,we were told ‘we might be very full and busy’ I feel as the restaurant was not equipped to have our table and should have simply turned us away instead of sacrificing quality to us and other customers then we were sat and we waited 40 minutes before even receiving a menu to look at. While ordering our food one of the children14 ordered the childrens bolegnase, our waitress proceeded to state in a rude tone that there was only one serving left and they wanted to save it for younger children I would like to add not a single child entered the restaurant after us. someone else ordered a lucozade and when we didn’t receive it . When we asked a different member of staff we were informed that there was none left which would have been absolutely fine but our waitress didn’t come back to tell us this and we were still charged for it on the bill. After an hour and a half we received our food. It was incredibly underwhelming.notably the lobster ravioli that cost sixteen euro and contained only three pieces of the ravioli that was cold and didn’t taste fresh at all. We also had to wait an additional ten minutes for chips that were ordered as sides for our mains only for them to arrive cold. We also had a young child with us who ordered the chicken gougons that tasted like fish as they were probably cooked in the same oil as the fish. Overall there was an extreme lack of care and good customer service. For the price this standard is completely unacceptable
Lovely setting and friendly staff Nice menu and the pub is so full of characterFood: 5/5
