About

Boat trips, museum, tearoom, day hire boat, and education centre

Story

Come and visit the Linlithgow Canal Centre on the Edinburgh & Glasgow Union Canal in Linlithgow (18 miles from Edinburgh), birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. The Edinburgh & Glasgow Union Canal is 31½ miles [50 km] long from Edinburgh to Falkirk and is linked to the Forth & Clyde Canal at Falkirk by the new Falkirk Wheel to continue the journey to Glasgow. The Canal Centre is administered by Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), by volunteer society members, and operates boat trips from Manse Road Basin every weekend from Easter until the end of September with two boats from 2pm. During July to mid-August (4th July to 12th August 2011) the Centre is open weekdays with town trips only
You can cruise the calm and peaceful canal to the Avon Aqueduct in comfort on board the "St Magdalene" or journey the town stretch on "Victoria", a replica of a Victorian steam packet boat.
Charters and private bookings can be arranged at other times. " Leamington" is a self drive boat available for day hire.
The Canal Museum has a sales counter with a short audio-visual presentation. Admission is free. There is an adjacent tearoom.

We thoroughly enjoyed our boat trip to Linlithgow Aqueduct. The crew were all volunteers in their 60s who were absolutely adorable and lovely. The boat was also equipped with free tea, coffee, biscuits and drinks. We made a 20mins stop at the Aquaduct to explore the impressive structure and sailed. It was a lovely experience and I highly recommend bringing some spare change to tip the crew.
Went for the canal tour. It was lovely and peaceful. It was supposed to pass over a large aqueduct but unfortunately some fallen trees made it impassable. We went for a nice route the other way and were provided tea and treats. The Skipper, Ian, made a point to come take to everyone on board and was a lovely man to talk to.
Absolutely loved our canal trip! First time being on a canal boat and I will definitely do it again. We did the trip to the Avon Aqueduct and it was amazing. So relaxing and stress relieving. Next time I think we'll do the Falkirk Wheel trip. Tea, coffee and biscuits were also available too at no extra charge which was fab.
A picturesque spot perfect for a relaxing stop while visiting this picturesque little village.
Small museum, helpful staff, boat trips and a cafe. What more do you need?
