The price of wine let this newly taken over country pub down. Only a couple of sub £20 a bottle the rest over £20 up to £28. Who in their right mind would pay £14 for a glass and a half of wine at lunch? You should be able to buy a bottle for £15 or less. The fish was delicious with its thin lightly battered coating but perhaps a little over priced? The chowder was excellent with lots of mussels, salmon, smoked haddock and prawns and well worth it. I would recommend it if the wine list prices were revised downwards. Two fish and chips, one chowder, one pint and two glasses of wine £56. I would have been happier with a three person one course lunch with a drink for about £45.
Had an absolute amazing carvery dinner here on Sunday! Had the lamb and ham meats with all the trimmings, so delicious. We’ll definitely be back. Staff were lovely, really friendly and helpful. There was a great wine selection too!
Always a great experience going to Lily's...was there recently for a Sunday carvery...we hadnt booked an there was no room in the restaurant but more than accommodating staff got us sorted with a table in the bar. Great feed too, food is always delicious :Food: 5/5
Very very slow service waited around 40 minutes for a drink, our food arrived and we had to ask again for a drink, very poor service. Food was nice enough.Food: 2/5
Excellent food, great service and friendly staff. Fish and chips are amazing. Nicest I have tasted in a long time. Sunday carvery is beautiful and you get loads. Guinness is beautiful too.Food: 5/5
Food is excellent, but unfortunately the service really lets it down. Waited an hour for main course until we asked where it was. Reason given was there was a table of 22 in ahead of us. However, if they can't cope with the numbers don't take the booking? Waiting staff mostly very young and standing around waiting for someone to tell them what to do. Evident when they're all standing at till area and look away when you try to catch their attention. It's a pity. Could be very good.
Visited on a Sunday.....Carvery was simply outstanding!Recommended dishesSunday Carvery
Booked for an early mother's day. Food was ok, very greasy and left alot of oil on the plate. Desserts weren't great at all. No one ate them as they were just not great at all. Staff were fantastic! So friendly and chatty which was great! What really put a dampner on the day and experience was the crowd. Football and rugby were on which was fine but we kept getting dirty looks from people. When we laughed too loud people shook their heads. We were leaving as the table we booked was booked for 5.30pm and when leaving someone said to us that we shouldn't be there and the bar should be regulars only when football is on. We were disgusted, made us feel really unwelcome. I know no fault of the bar as such but just thought the whole atmosphere was off.
Called in for a couple last night, on a cold icy night the welcome from both staff and fire were fantastic. Great atmosphere, great service, but best of all great Guinness
Fantastic Sunday carvery here..absolutely no doubt...food in general is good but the layout off the main bar and seating let's it down...everyone is on top off each other! Constantly having to move to let punters pass...The bar doesn't have the room for people to be sitting at it!Food: 4/5
