Wonderful place to visit! Great little museum too. Castle is up lots of steps but a beautiful view at the top. Really sweet little place with lots of local history especially from the film and model village exhibition. Great archaeological finds from the local area too. Highly recommend!
I've always wanted to visit Lewes and specifically the castle as a pivotal battle in British history occurred just outside of the town, and of course into the town.nnIt did indeed not disappoint. I was still very impressed with how much of the castle remains and infact the location it presides. You can get some fantastic views of the whole valley that the town itself resides in.nnThe museum staff were polite and friendly. I would say however the museum is quite small, and can easily be done in about 20 to 25 minutes.nnThe admission prices I would say were a fair price.nnWith any piece of history in the UK, I would strongly recommend anyone who loves history to pay this location a visit.
The Castle in itself was nice, the addition of the little museum is good and you can learn a few things from items and literature. The Castle has very steep steps so be careful.nI removed a star because the staff I encountered was not really pleasant. The woman who sold me my ticket had a different attitude with me than she had with other people, no idea why, she was quite dry and unpleasant, while laughing with the other visitors. It left me wondering what could be the cause since I had not done anything to justify this blatant difference of treatment. She was not outright rude but it is not appreciated to go somewhere and being made to feel like we are an inconvenience and not as deserving as others. Thanks
Once you’ve mastered the stairs leading to the top of the castle you know instantly why they have built Lewes castle at this point. Views across all the surounding land. Friendly people where at the ticket office to assist.
I don't normally go for ruined castles but I quite enjoyed this one. Good local history and I enjoyed climbing both towers for the views and information boards telling me the story of its rise and fall.
