Virgin on the ridiculous - The Writing Is NOT On The WallnnThis station is managed by Virgin. The Virgin Team Leader AKA Station Master was completely indifferent as to why there was no signs on Platform 3 pointing to the ticket machine which was recessed in the second exit off the same platform. As passengers it caused us to not only miss a train and wait 40 minutes but also forced us lug heavy cases up and down the stairs to Platform 5.nnThe ticket machines has been installed for over a year and the all telephones removed around the same time. I was advised it can take 4 years to change a simple sign and he was unable to place any temporary signs up.
We went on a chartered vintage train on Saturday 9th September, travelling to Edinburgh and arriving back in Lancaster about 8.00 pm. We saw our local train to Grange on the next platform, but it pulled out as we rushed down the steps to the platform. To our dismay we realised the next train to Grange was cancelled and we would have to wait two and a half hours for the next one at 10.30pm. I spoke to the Avanti station assistant, who was most apologetic about the cancellation, but went to phone his supervisor. We are four seniors, who had been travelling from 6.25am until 8.00pm and on our return to Grange still had a 30 minute walk to get back to where we live. We were exhausted, but also astonished when the Avanti station assistant came back and told us he had arranged with his supervisor that they would provide us with a taxi back to Grange. It was a kind and thoughtful thing to do and it restored our faith in human nature. Well done to the lovely staff at Lancaster station and our thanks.
Absolutely horrific customer service by 'Ash' from the management team at the station. Anticipated disruptions were mentioned along the journey due to a storm and hence got in earlier to catch a train to Leeds so that I had a better chance at getting a connection to Barnsley rather than bank on the last train which could have gotten cancelled. He refused to accept that there were any disruptions along the line. He refused to guide me to the right person who would have been able to make that decision he was from Avanti and I was travelling by Northern. He refused to state he was not the person to make that decision. He refused to let me board an earlier train which would have gotten me onto an earlier connection and home. My last connection was eventually cancelled and it was the last train of the day. Complete lack of understanding and empathy.
Very quiet at 630 in morning at least costa was open
I left my handbag on the train at Lancaster station with my phone purse etc in it - what a disaster! But the staff at Lancaster, Ian and his colleague on platform 4, were just fantastic. They immediately called Preston station and the train manager to get them to look for the bag and look after it, and put me on the next train to Preston to collect it. I can’t thank them enough for their help and reassurance and for Bens help too at Preston station . I hope you all have a very happy Christmas and New Year!
