Fantastic place. Lots of history to be shared. Access to the house and surrounding gardens was great and many people within to advise on the history. National trust was running an interactive photography session for the kids which was great. Also had a history of photography in the entrance building which was interesting it's actually where photography was invented. There was also an interesting part on plastic waste.
Lacock Abbey is a beautiful National Trust place set in the grounds of the picturesque village of Lacock. The rooms in the Abbey are all very interesting to see, especially at Christmas when the Abbey is beautifully decorated and the yearly Community Christmas Tree Festival takes place in the cloisters. There is also a nice cafe in Lacock Abbey with seating inside and outside. You can easily spend a whole day in Lacock looking around the Abbey, grounds and the village with the traditional old cottages, little shops and pubs. Walking around the village and the outer grounds of the Abbey is free, tickets are needed for the Abbey and Fox Talbot museum, a must for any photographer lover. Lacock is always worth a visit and there is something to see and do for the whole family and all ages.
Gorgeous place to visit. It’s beautiful all year round with different flowers for each season, often also an exhibition of photography or art on and the surrounding village is lovely to walk around. And you can see lots of places used in the Harry Potter film and Downton Abbey!Visited onWeekdayWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
Loved visiting this abbey, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful abbey especially the cloisters which were used in the filming of Harry Potter. The ceiling in the main hall with the shields on the was magnificent. Seeing the window where the first negative was taken was also interesting as a photographer to know that’s where it all started. All in all a fabulous day out.
Lovely National Trust property. Very interesting. Laycock village is also worth seeing and walking around. There are some short circular walks through the stunning countryside. The Red Lion pub is worth a visit too. Plenty of parking and a playground nearby. The National Trust cafe was shut when we visited but there are toilet facilities nearby. Good for all age groups.
A very popular place, known, among others, from the Harry Potter movie and, of course, from the discovery of photography. The former monastery holds a plethora of Talbot memorabilia. The village itself is simply beautiful. The whole place belongs to the National Trust and as you'd expect everything is well organized and there are all facilities.
An absolutely lovely afternoon. There was an Astronomy Photograph Exhibition when we went. It was a lovely sunny day so walking around the gardens and Abbey was really enjoyable. Great place for kids to run around plus they occasionally have activities for them. Tea rooms and refreshments available..... And you get to walk in the same area as Harry Potter as the scenes from the first film were filmed there. A truly wonderful day.
Very interesting place, home to many great filling locations worth looking up!. Also the birthplace of photography, and a small exhibit about its origins. Great walks around the grounds and in Lacock itself. Would definitely recommend for a day trip, there’s plenty to do and a very special placeVisited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes

Easy parking, quiet village and amazing Abbey. A treat for Harry Potter fans. If you remove all the cars from the village then you will time travel to 12th century. It’s was amazing. Rich history of this place is something that I loved it.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
