Visited this place 3-4 times when I was living in London. As with many of the other reviews, excellent cheese, poor service. Last time I visited was about a year ago, but it was always the same staff and they consistently provided poor service.

When I saw this shop near my workplace, I was glad to find some french cheese you wouldn't easily get in London. I thought I would treat myself to something nice. I bought 2 tiny slices of french cheese and a dried cured meat truffle italian salami as it was recommended by the staff. The bill came up to nearly £30 and it was a bit of a shock. The cheese didn't smell very fresh and didn't taste as good as you would normally in France, and the italian salami tasted like old/ not fresh, couldn't taste any truffle either. I think I will go back to local markets next time ... disappointing

Went to have some lunch with my mother and when we walked in there was no greeting even thought the shop was quiet (4 customers, 3 dining, 1 browsing the shop). We waited to be seated by either of the two members of staff working for a minute or so, after neither of the staff members bothered to acknowledge us we thought that it may be a self seating establishment as it was very small and more of a canteen style. As soon as we went to sit at one of the many empty tables we were told that we couldn’t and we had to have either the two seater table right next to the door with wobbly chairs or one that was so crampt next to other tables I couldn’t even lift my elbows, as all of the other tables were booked. I find this extremely hard to believe bearing in mind none of the tables had reservation signs and it was empty and past lunchtime st around 14:30!! Anyway we sat at the crampt table (as the other one was too cold). We were given menus and then then left, with no one checking if we wanted a drink or any acknowledgment whatsoever. The guy who seated us had walked off and started serving someone else and the waitress walked past three times without even a hello or an “ill just be one moment guys”. By this time we had had enough and got up to leave. The man who seated us seemed insulted by this and started saying we could have another table but they would be sharing ones. Weird as when we walked in we was told they were all booked by the same man!?! Then when we said we hust wanted to leave he huffed and said very rudely “FINE!” Then as we’re leaving the female waiter started asking why also!!! If they wanted our custome so badly, maybe they should have acted this way in the beginning!?!?!? It worked out in the end however because we went to a fabulous Italian round the corner (pierino) where the staff were super friendly and attentive and also the food was reasonably priced and DELICIOUS! I would definitely not recommend la cage au fromage unless you enjoy being ignored or looked down upon.

Nice place to try different cheeses and meats. Attentive staff and not too pricey, given its location.
