Large hotel in Sawbridgeworth with golf course and health spa. The pool water was lovely and warm. It's quite large for a hotel pool and all one depth, so if you're nervous about deep water there's no need to worry. Very pleasant jacuzzi and also sauna and steam room. Our room was large and clean with comfortable twin beds. Unfortunately it was right over the function room where someone was having a party with loud music that didn't stop until after 1.00am. Our friends staying in another part of the hotel didn't hear a thing, so check where your room will be when you book. However, breakfast was very good fresh fruit, yogurt, hot bacon, sausage, eggs etc and our evening meal in the restaurant was very enjoyable. Staff were courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, during a thunder storm, the glass atrium above Reception leaked terribly. Staff were quick to cordon the area off and mop up. Hope they're able to get it fixed soon.
We read some reviews after booking and I was quite worried that the room would be in a bad state of repair. The room was very nicely presented, clean and tidy. We had tea, coffee and Galaxy hot chocolate supplied with the kettle. A nice supprise was that we had a fridge in the room, we'd brought sandwiches and some drinks as were arriving late so this was great. A few small cosmetic issues such as the curtain ring had broken making it tricky to pull. The bathroom shaving mirror was flopping about so unusable, I fixed this with a couple of turns with the screw driver I had - the room service could have easily done this or reported it. Just little things really, it's 3 star and not expensive so this can slide. The spa had the same little issues, nice but not great. The sauna was on low as damaged by guests. The jacuzzi was just warm and only 1/3 of it had bubbles working. Most worrying was an underwater light, still attached underwater by the cable, sat on the side of the pool. When looking at it, the glass was missing and the live and neutral cables were poking out as the lamp holder was missing. I just hoped it wasn't live else we were all dead if it fell in!
A very enjoyable stay. Having read various negative reviews we were a little cautious. The facilities were great, the staff were courteous, we had a lovely room, and the restaurant was good. Overall we had a thoroughly enjoyable 1 night treat. Thank you
Just had a great round of golf. The course is in fantastic condition despite the weather we've had this year. Some of the holes are very close together but it doesn't feel claustrophobic and there's plenty of room for forgiveness for us less competent hackers. Would definitely recommend playing here.
Most staff are lovely, spa and pool is good but kitchen staff are extremely unhelpful. The breakfast was fine but the cooked meals were probably the worst I've had as far as quality and getting what you order. I ordered gammon and what came was very over cooked back bacon so it was very dry and hard. That said, I like bacon more than gammon so it was OK for me and I ate half of it but my friend couldn't eat hers. I would definitely stay here again and just eat outside rather than in the restaurant
Had an afternoon tea at this venue which was very nice only 4 stars overall as the tea would have been nice in a China teapot not metal, but tea was very good. Staff very pleasant and very helpful by way of making sure we were always topped up with tea and that everything was ok. They were worth the full 5 stars Would definitely book again.
This was in a nice location quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately I was placed in a room that was next to the entrance/ reception of the hotel so from the room I was awoken middle of the night by the guest chatting and laughing for a while, I had to call reception about it clearly was a large group of people Shame as it really did disturb my night. The bed itself was lovely and big, cosy. Water in the bath could have been hotter. I didn’t get much, just lukewarm. Breakfast was good and plentiful, ate a lot and felt full. Only pork sausages and bacon, no alternative for anyone who doesn’t eat pork/ meat. Didn’t visit the pool so cannot comment. Hotel is a bit tired and dated to be honest I wouldn’t expect anything luxury. Unfortunately I won’t be returning it’s not for me but if I was passing through the area I would. Overall it was ok. Oh and I woke up in the morning to there being no running water and a note under the door confirming an issue with the water pressure. So that didn’t make things much better.
Reasonable stay. Billed as deluxe gourmet stay. Wouldn't describe anything about it as deluxe or gourmet. Comfortable room. Reasonable dinner. Breakfast was cold and steam room wasn't working in the spa. Bar was in reception area which felt a bit strange but wasn't anything bad about the stay either.
We were here with a Wowcher code for the use of the Spa + Afternoon Tea. If you’re advertising a ‘spa’ with quite an expensive price, surely you’ll have all available facilities. But no. The ladies steam room was not working, nor was the sauna. So what were we left with? The swimming pool and the jacuzzi. So you’re telling me we paid over £40, drove from West London, to come and stand in a pool and a jacuzzi when I could have experienced that in my local leisure centre? please stop. in this ECONOMY - in this FINANCIAL CRISIS pls stop. At least notify us before arrival, at least provide us a partial refund. And what is disappointing is that prior to arriving, I checked the reviews, and I also saw another review, a couple of weeks back, sharing their disappointment regarding their unavailable ladies sauna/steam room. So you would’ve hoped that it would be fixed by now. Nope. Not great at all. The swimming pool was great, the jacuzzi was great, but don’t advertise spa facilities if they are unavailable. Or give a partial refund at least. Disappointing.
Booked this for what we thought might have been a lovely Christmas meal, but how wrong we were!! We now know why they insist on payment up front as no one on this Earth would of paid the bill for what food was received, Meal was £100 per adult £50 per child, adult Turkey dinner and child’s Turkey dinner were identical size, the meat was processed meat like pre brought boil in the bag meat not cut fresh from a Turkey obviously above the limits of the useless cooks they have here, using a knife must be to complicated for them!! The veg was no where near fresh just all frozen rubbish, I’m assuming the use of a microwave is the level of there skills, The starter was also just a vile looking thing that has been deep fried god knows what they wanted it to be!! The best starter was the children’s garlic bread, just shows you the limits of the cooks here!! DEFINITELY NO CHEFS IN THIS KITCHEN JUST SCHOOL DINNER COOKS Please avoid this place for food at all costs, don’t waste your money I’m expecting a FULL REFUND OF THEM OR WILL BE TAKING IT FURTHER PREFERABLY WITH THE HEALTH AUTHORITIES
