With three Michelin stars you would expect the food to be sensational and it certainly did not disappoint. Every course was an adventure, making the most of fresh, local, seasonal ingredients to produce flavours and textures that were inventive but never 'weird'. Similarly the presentation was stylish and creative without being pretentious. We had the signature wine pairing and it was sensational, the wines not only complementing the food but contributing to the taste as if part of it. The building, the decor, furniture, crockery and cutlery are, like the food, elegant in a simple and understated way - smart and comfortable with lots of personality. The service was exemplary and the young staff are exceptional - friendly, professional, highly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do. An unforgettable experience.
Absolutely brilliant food, in a bustling, efficient and comfortable setting. Staff showed us the kitchen, explained it's mechanics and professionally and capably delivered us wonderfully tasty and visual courses, with a delightful wine pairing. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.
Very lucky to have been able to dine here for a 2nd time, now after their 3rd star awarded. It still impressed! The food is exceptional - genuinely every bite something to experience and savour. The wine flights seemed a little less generous than our previous visit but still a great pairing for the food. The service - for us - was good, professional yet relaxed. We booked a stay and dine package and while annoying they didn’t honour the originally booked price, hopefully this translates to the staff being paid a decent wage. They work some serious hours!
Quite simply the best meal and one of the best experiences of my life. The staff are really welcoming and friendly, a particular shout out to our Sheffield wine guy who was ace, really knowledgeable, helpful with some wonderful recommendations. I love the fact that despite there being a famous food critic in the restaurant everyone was treated exactly the same. Whoever was responsible for the venison dish deserves a promotion, that was soooo good.
A remarkable experience. Simply perfect food, superb service and faultless from start to finish. A never to be forgotten day out and so pleased that we made the effort to go.
I booked l'Enclume two month in advance and we made this long journey especially for it. Previously I have been to Rogan's London one starred restaurants Roganic and Fera, and I liked them both. I have known about l'Enclume for a long time but never made up my mind to go this far for it. This year, it has got 3 stars, so I decided to make a journey for it. The restaurant setting is simple and original, white and grey toned decoration. The tasting menu took us about 4hrs to finish without a rush. I don't eat chocolate, they alter the desert for me which is quite considerate. The service is really efficient and the food is creative. The dishes showcase the chef's extraordinary culinary skills and the fresh ingredients are sourced from their own farm. Well worth three stars. And they gave me a shiso seedling to take away as their souvenir. Dietary restrictions: They have change my dessert because I do not eat chocolate.
We spent Christmas Day here last year as part of our trip to the Lake District and it was perfect! It has such good reviews, so we were worried that it might be overhyped but absolutely not. It was all delicious! If you can book I would 100% recommend going.
Words cannot describe this place, delicious food, presented in imaginative ways, where flavours are complex and surprising. This place deserves its 3 Michelin stars, the staff make you feel special, it is expensive, but worth it for that extra special occasion, or a fantastic treatFood: 5/5
I’ve pondered for almost a week before leaving this review. My view on the food experience is, ‘alright’. Some courses were excellent, some were awful and some were ok. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it and we certainly won’t be back. I do wonder if they were missing key chefs as our experience seems way off other people’s views. I initially gave it 3 stars but considering our £1100+ spend, i think 3 is possibly too generous. The snacks and scallops were superb. We had high hopes after these but they were definitely the high point. The buckwheat was tasteless - I wondered if they had missed a dressing. Otherwise I would describe it as lazy. The cod was awful. The sauce was salty and unpleasant. The desserts were all disappointing. Most disappointing was the cherry dessert. After all, Who doesn’t love cherries? They were lacking any flavour and the topping tasted of chemical. Maybe this was intentional. And then breakfast. Why do you need to over engineer breakfast. No menu. Whisky porridge. Cinnamon bun - not enough flavour to stand alone. Devilled eggs. Brioche toast an inch and a half thick. The homemade beans tasted like something left over from a student meal made with passata the night before. I did enjoy a grilled field mushroom and half an avocado though. On a positive note, all of the staff were superb. Our room was lovely. We enjoyed the wine pairing. Something not quite right about the whole dining experience. Doesn’t compare with other equivalent rating restaurants where every mouthful looks and tastes incredible. We have waited a while to visit. Hopefully this was a blip.
An amazing fine dining experience with superb service which I can only akin to precision craftsmanship. I’m not surprised it’s the number 1 restaurant in the GFG 2020.
