Went for my birthday dinner and honestly everything was exceptional. The level of service was great - all team members were so knowledgeable about the ingredients and pairings and even the origins of the cutlery! I couldn’t recommend enough.
We had the vegan set menu here and it was amazing. Staffs were very helpful and attentive. Good portion of food and nice combination of flavours. Price is reasonable for the amount and quality of food. Vegetarian options: Vegan set menu is available
For a Japanese restaurant, the quality of rice was bad, from their sushi to fried rice. As you can see clearly from the picture, the rice was gummy and all clumped together in the fried rice maybe because they used too much water, or did not wash away the starch. We ordered a few sushi rolls and they tasted pretty much the same because they used the same sauce. The rice in their sushi was also similar, it does not matter what cookware you use if you lack the skills or care to cook good food. Sterile atmosphere and haphazard service. Not surprised they were removed from the Michelin guide. 21 Sushi across the road is a lot better. It is hilarious how the owner responded to all negative reviews by calling them not "discerning", unlike their typical clientele. My partner worked in Tokyo for 8 years and we lived there, so yes, we know how good sushi rice should taste like. EDITED based on the owner's arrogant and ignorant reply "Dear Angela, thank you for taking the time to write a review. We pride ourselves in attracting discerning diners - many of whom have travelled to Japan - and who can detect that we use the best quality rice possible for our dishes, and that the sushi rice particularly is prepared using a japanese cedar wood casket. Our diners appreciate the quality of ingredients and marinades that we use. We clearly failed and attracted the wrong diner in your case."
Really great food and a great experience. There's a range of options on the menu, we went for two of the set menus between four and it was A LOT. Such a huge variety of flavours. Service was impeccable and the dining room is really pleasant. It's expensive, but it's properly crafted food.Food: 5/5
Delicious food, good service. As we eat fish but not meat, we requested to replace the meat items from the tasting menu with vegan options from the vegan tasting menu, and this was accommodated. Everything was excellent, and beautifully presented. Dietary restrictions: Vegan tasting menu
The food was so fast that even though we didn't order a set menu, serving so many dishes at once made the experience a little bad. Dishes are good, do love the wagyu steaksuper tender and juicy.Food: 4/5
Amazing. We had the Syokutsuu gourmet set taster menu to guide us through our first ever experience of Japanese food. Supported with each dish being described and explained by the waiting team at Kyoto Kitchen who showed great passion for the food they produced. Paired with different sake to perfectly complement each dish. With the owner on hand to make sure everything ran smoothly whilst being passionate about getting things right and ensuring everyone had a memorable visit. A must visit venue for anyone who comes to Winchester.
If there were more stars, they deserve it! We travel past Winchester and always stop by! The service is incomparable. The owner came round to greet us and thank us which was lovely! The sushi rolls are INCREDIBLE. The seared beef sushi roll is my personal favourite! To be honest, I don’t think you can get better than this! Absolutely smashed it!
My two favourite cuisines are Japanese and Mexican. The best Japanese restaurant in my opinion is in central London called Ikeda on Brook Street see my review. I never thought I'd come close to the quality there but it looks like I have. Kyoto Kitchen is superb. From the moment we walked in, the ambience was refined and calm. We were sat near the kitchen and it was incredible how quietly and efficiently the chefs worked even though the restaurant was full out front. We had the opportunity to sample a large number of dishes and even one or two that weren't on the menu. If you have one dish, order the scallops in whatever variety they come in. Let's get to it. - Scallop Ume-Shisho Ae - what a way to start off the meal. These scallops have got to be close to the freshest I've ever tasted with the plum and shiso pickle providing a delicate combination of every so slightly sweet and tangy. Make sure you take off the rose petals and break up the leaves to eat with the scallops see the picture of the rose petals in the soy sauce. - Yuzu scallops off menu - we were so impressed with the scallops we were offered the Yuzu scallops. A completely different experience with the sauce complementing in a completely different manner. - Black Cod Gyozas - never had this before. A different type of gyoza and recommended. - Soft Shell Crab Tempura - the crab tasted incredibly fresh, as with all the other dishes. The batter was light and didn't overpower the subtle flavour of the crab. - Tuna sashmi selection off menu - my friend loves tuna so instead of getting the sashimi selection we were offered three grades of tuna sashimi...which we got two portions of, of course. :- - Chef's Omakase Nigiri Selection - a good selection of different types of fish, all to the fresh standard we had come to expect by this point in the meal. - Saikoro Wagyu A5 steak with Kim Chi - this was probably the weakest dish amongst a group of extremely strong performers. Usually when I have A5 wagyu it melts in the mouth. This didn't quite have that, but then the wagyu I've had prior has been three times the price and this was only just not in that flavour and texture league. Well worth sampling for a juxtaposed experience post sushi. - Kyoto Mochi - both the green tea and Azuki beans variants were perfect and tasted freshly made. - Dorayaki - my favourite Japanese dessert. Light and fluffy pancake with a creamy green tea filling. Sounds sweet, but it's not. That's one aspect I love about Japanese desserts, they're not that sweet at all, just a touch. To top it off the service was efficient, friendly and they knew exactly when there was a natural break in the conversation between my friend and I to ask if there's anything else we'd like. It was those conversations that resulted in the off menu items we ordered. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and, as my friend lives down in Winchester, I certainly will next time I'm there.
Excellent service very polite and pretty attentive Apart from some puzzling moments why we were placed on a table for 2 while 2 other couples who came later were put on a table for 4 Bias or preferential treatments? By the way that part of the restaurant is very noisy to the annoying level The food is very British and definitely not Japanese and no where close to Japanese standard It’s not only non Japanese food but also not even hybrid between Japanese and British food The Unagi roll is cold as it came out from the fridge clearly not freshly made The omakase sushi is reasonably but not great The tempura is disappointing and very oily In conclusion great service but poor food and not worth the value for money
