staff very welcoming, food incredibly high standard, lovely rooms and a lovely surprise of a doggie welcome bag. the treats were unusually loved by our very fussy doggy. would definitely recommend and would definitely return thankyou so much to the Kirkwall Hotel.
Beautiful hotel. Beautiful rooms. Lovely restaurant. Friendly staff. Right in the heart of Kirkwall.nnOur room, 102 was huge and looked out over the harbour. Lovely to sit with a cup of tea or whiskey and watch the world go by.nnHotel is wheelchair accessible but be aware the lift is a relic of a bygone era. Lovely to look at and in keeping with the hotel but a bit of a squeeze.nnWould definitely return.
We loved this hotel, it's right by everything you need to do and see in Kirkwall. Staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. Such an atmospheric bar with its extensive list of Scottish, Orcadian and Nordic named whiskies and great advice too on what to drink. Breakfast was simple cooked breakfasts and continental and lovely views over Kirkwall harbour from the big picture windows while you ate breakfast every morning.nnI like peace and quiet so weeks before we had emailed to ask for a quiet room always do this wherever I go but the first room was over the kitchens with a noisy fan coming on and off all night. Also room 316 is damp, I recognised the smell as soon as I walked into it. Staff were amazing and next day we were moved to a lovely room centrally placed in the middle of the hotel. Room was spotless when we went in, loved the top spec recently renovated bathroom but housekeeping was strange. Never been anywhere where the bed isn't made up every day, sure I turn it back to air before we leave to go out for the day but it was left like that. By day 4 I remade our bed before we went out for the day, just like the 48 weeks of the year that I am in my own home lol. I kind of in an amused way asked why this was and came back that day to a made up bed with no duvet on my side and the duvet tucked so tightly in that it would come up to your waist, bizarre, so completely remade it, it's just basic housekeeping really . I will add that I'm tidy and there is never virtually anything to do to any hotel room that we stay in, I respect other people's property like my own home.nnEvening food was amazing when we ate there. Especially liked the pork dish that I had on my last night there and partner his beetroot and quinoa I think burger. Restaurant service at all times was amazing, the ambience was lovely, decor beautiful and surprisingly warm and cozy for an old building with no secondary glazing.nnLoved the old fashioned lift, remembered to close both doors on it each time we got out too so that other floors could call it. Lots of interesting old photos on the walls of each floor too.nnLong term parking is free and just a very short walk away from the hotel, short term parking in front. Weather was glorious so more than happy to walk to the car and back with cases.nnWould recommend definitely.
Nice, clean rooms. The ladies at the front desk were super nice and welcoming. Dinner and breakfast at the hotel were both excellent. Will definitely stay here again next time we are in Kirkwall.
Great rooms and bar-restaurant in a beautiful old hotel with an ideal location, convenient to town, shops, and waterfront. Nearby free parking. Staff are kind and helpful. Pet friendly, which was essential to us. The place to stay in Kirkwall!
