On first sight this abbey looks nothing special, but once through the old ruined gatehouse, the site opens up and the size of the abbey layout is revealed. Set beside a lovely river with walks all around it is really special. Perfect for picnics with benches and tables and fresh coffee from the entrance booth, it's a lovely place tucked away just off the A64.
Peaceful ruins of a priory in a beautiful setting at the junction of the Howardian Hills and the Wolds. We were lucky enough to visit on a warm sunny day so spent over an hour there but on a not so nice day you could be in and out in 20 mins… The staff were great, very friendly and informative and a small but decent selection of snacks and drinks were available.
This was actually just a place to meet up so a friend could hop in the car with us to join our journey. It looked very nice and is situated along a river that had some people swimming in and others having a picnic along side. The river scene was idyllic. It also wasn't far off the M1 so it could be the perfect place to take a break from driving. I gave it 4 stars because the price to visit was a little steep £11 or £12.
Stopped at Kirkham Priory to admire the archaeology. The ruins were spectacular and it was easy to imagine it as a whole building from the displayed descriptions. While we were there it hailed and you could see how harsh life would have been. Great visit!
A really peaceful place with lots of history to enjoy, be sure to get a guidebook to fully understand the site, although information boards are present too. Good to see before heading to the pub up the hill!
Absolutely stunning place to visit, carpark spaces are limited but what a view. Small cafe and gift shop and staff are very welcoming.
Very impressed by these remains. Makes you think how big and magnificent this building would have been in past.
Lovely place to visit. Most of the site is accessible over grass lawns although there aren't many paths. My wife uses an electric mobility scooter and with careful route selection was able to get to most of the ruins.
It is interesting site with the nice view. Good place for picnic with the family and friends. I guess administration tickets could have been a bit cheaper but still worth coming and exploring Kirkham Priory.
Great place for an hour or so outside. Nice small hamlet with a picturesque railway line. The car park can get busy at times but it's free. Entry is £6.50 with other options. Nice historical place to come and see
