The track was independent (also known as a flapping track) and served the local mining village. After the war the track could accommodate a maximum of 3,500 spectators. In 1985 John Curran and Keith Murrell took over the running of the track and invested into the stadium by improving the facilities. Distances were changed to 100, 260, 330, 460 & 630 metres, an 'Inside Sumner' hare was put in and a competition was introduced called the Kinsley Greyhound Derby. The race offered £20,000 eclipsing many of the top National Greyhound Racing Club events at the time. A computer totalisator was added and twelve bookmakers stood on course. There were 48 kennels on site and the Jubilee restaurant offered room for 160 covers. The track was beginning to show all the hallmarks of a regulated circuit and even had a thriving social club open all week.Despite the significant stature of the track it was not until 2000 that the decision was finally taken to apply for an NGRC licence which was granted. The new distances were 275, 450, 485 and 656 metres. Keith Murrell acted as Racing Manager until Craig Hunt was brought in to take up the role. The first meeting was on 15 January 2000 and racing was on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Distances have since changed on two more occasions and a Swaffham hare has been introduced.

Recommend to all family great friendly atmosphere and staff apart from the glass collectors it dose not take away from a great day out also the food is amazing great portions sizes and selection.
We took our 18 year old Son on his Birthday and some friends and family. I'd been to the Dog Racing in Manchester before, but we had a number of newcomers with us and they all Loved it. The food was basic, but good value and the staff were friendly. We had full table service and this suited us, although for a bigger party, the other self service area would have been equally good.
No bookies. Have to bet on your mobile phone or there's a bookies close by on opposite side of road.
Fancied night out at dogs whilst visiting yorkshire, very run down place, no bookies, no food no drinks, massive place would have been good in its day . Shame.
Shocking!! No food available, no place to bet at all. Pointless visit
Never been before so no idea what to expect. Fun day, food amazing! Carvery on a par to good hotel and afternoon tea as good as any I have had. The salmon sandwiches were heavenly. The races were fast and furious and I came away £10 richer than when I arrived. If you have never "had a day out at the dogs" it's well worth going as it's a fun experience.
Sunday carvery is fantastic, choice of 5 meats veg a plenty. Afternoon tea was on the same level, nothing to much trouble for the very friendly staff. Had a few bets and even a couple of wins. Well worth the a visit with friends or family.
We had a great day here. The food was fabulous and varied. The racing great, not being regular betting folk we found all the help and advice very helpful. We were on an organised trip and had the hot carvery which was lovely, it would have been nice to have a veggie option as it was all meat but other than that couldn't fault it.
Had a good evening on Saturday night and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The deal we had was great value and the food was plentiful. There were some technical problems during the night which stopped play until they had fixed it. Very little info and quite a bit of confusion around the track for some time but did restart after 20 mins. Overall well worth a visit, but could do with a better p.a. or more screens with info.
