The station was opened in 1852 by the Great Northern Railway. The station was redeveloped in the 1970s, simplifying the layout and providing electric suburban services, and it became one of London’s busiest stations. From 2018, long-distance trains from King's Cross started to run to Edinburgh Waverley, Leeds and Newcastle; In addition, Great Northern runs suburban commuter trains around North London, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.nIn the late 20th century, the area around the station became known for its seedy and downmarket character, and was used as a backdrop for several films as a result. A major redevelopment was undertaken in the 21st century, including restoration of the original roof, and the station became well known for its association with the Harry Potter books and films, particularly the fictional Platform 9+3⁄4.
My Visit to King’s Cross Station, LondonnnMy visit to King’s Cross Station was both practical and memorable. One of London’s most famous railway stations, it opened in 1852 and is a major hub connecting London with cities across the UK, including Edinburgh, Cambridge, and York. The beautifully restored architecture combines classic Victorian design with modern glass and steel elements, making it not just a transport hub but a landmark in itself.nnA highlight for many visitors is the Harry Potter Platform 9¾ — a fun photo spot with a trolley disappearing into the wall. The station also features plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and retail stores, making waiting time comfortable.nnVisitor Tips: Arrive early if you’re catching a long-distance train, as the platforms can get busy. For Harry Potter fans, visit early morning to avoid queues at the photo area and souvenir shop.nnHow to Reach: Located on Euston Road, King’s Cross is connected to six Underground lines and is right next to St Pancras International Station, offering Eurostar services to Paris and Brussels.nnOverall, King’s Cross Station is more than just a transport hub — it’s a blend of history, architecture, and modern convenience that perfectly captures the spirit of London travel.
Great for Harry Potter lovers. Here you can take plenty of pictures. They store staffs probably provide wands and house scarf’s also, they are very friendly and also suggest you how to pose and take good photos and that was the best part. Their cameraman also takes your photos, if you like them and wanna get it framed, you can have it then and there only. Overall a very good experience.
Absolutely amazing and beautiful train station with modern facilities and design. Very easy to navigate, though, very crowded, but efficient.nIt has lots of historic features including iconic Platform 9¾ Harry Potter trolley in the wall with beautifully curated Harry Potter store filled with magical merchandise next to it.nGreat access, great environment and professional staff.nNice place to visit. Strategic location. Great connection to other transport links and other train stations.
King’s Cross is not just a railway station – it’s an iconic London landmark. The mix of historic architecture and modern design makes it one of the most beautiful train stations in Europe. It’s also famous for Platform 9¾ from the Harry Potter series, which is a must-see for fans. The station is very well organized, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and clear signage, making travel easy and comfortable. However, during peak hours it can get extremely crowded, and finding a quiet spot can be challenging. Despite that, the atmosphere is vibrant and full of life. Whether you’re catching a train or just stopping by for photos, King’s Cross leaves a positive impression. Four stars for its charm, functionality, and the bit of movie magic it carries.
